This paper is aims to review the book entitled Review of History: What and Why? byBeverley Southgate. Our findings show that this book is not an original work which contains speculations of the author, but it is an elementary text book about one of the most important questions of the philosophy of history, i.e. Does history have any kind of objectivity? In a good manner, he gathered views of the former as well as the latter. Also, he shows that how the history, as a disciplines affected by other fields of humanities. Its language is simple and has a logical structure. But relativistic and subjectivist approach of the author is one of the challenging aspects of this book in Iranian philosophical atmosphere. This book is old and its subject matters are very limited.

Translation is one of the most important tools for knowledge transfer, especially for the academic community, so translation of a book like its original version has a special value and importance. One of the most valuable and academic books is "Microeconomic Analysis" which is written by Hal.R Varian which is one of the top scientific sources of microeconomics. Ney Publishing has published this book which is translated by Mr. Reza Hosseini and now it is one of the educational resources of microeconomics in postgraduate studies in Iranian universities. Given the valuable position of this book, its translation requires a critical review and this article has tried to evaluate the weaknesses and strengths of this book according to the analytical-descriptive method by quantitative and qualitative analysis. It means discussing the appearance features, writing, edition, idiomatic translations, and text translation. It has been concluded that the translation of this book is quantitatively acceptable, but it has qualitative disadvantages that are not sufficient for the translation of an academic scientific book. It is suggested that due to the numerous editions of the book's translation and its importance, the next editions of this translation should be reviewed and the proposed corrections can be considered.

Walter Benjamin, the famous German Philosopher and a Literature critic, had published some articles separately which were compiled and translated into English in the form of a selection titled: Illuminations. In 2014, a book under the title of The Selection Works of Benjamin Walter with a Persian translation was published by Nashre Elm. It is claimed inadequately that the five articles in this book are translations of the same five articles from the English Selection. We studied this work by finding the English text claimed to be translated by the Persian translator and some other sources that had not been mentioned. Despite the Content Analysis of the Benjamin’s articles, we compared the Persian translation with the original text to find out the accuracy of this translation. We concluded that the translation is full of formal and content problems which it does not succeed to deserve the title of translation of the regarded articles. It also does not qualify to be considered an academic and a scientific textbook, and even it is not proper for general use; nevertheless, it is valuable to attend these kinds of works. However, the translator should at least have considered the scientific patterns so that this attempt would be useful.

The purpose of this book is to find the answer to the failure of the modernization project in the Middle East. He does this by tracing the fundamental contradictions of the culture of the region. Louay Safi reviewed the formation of the mentality of development in ideas of Descartes and Kant, then he discussed the comparison of two theoretical models of Marxian and Weberian development. He, through giving priority to structures of knowledge and culture, clarified his position on this matter. The author has analyzed the notion of intellectuals in the Muslim world since the beginning of facing with two layers of the Western modern civilization, the colonial and technological progress. He tried to analyze Arab and Muslim scholars' exposure to the problem of tradition-modernity through showing how they deal with the Islamic and Arabic heritages. Safi, finally, believed that a local development would be achieved by means of an active and a critical return to the Arab Islamic heritage; and the path of development leads not only to the West. Although the author has claims that he has gone beyond the Western models, in the end, he has just presented an overall view, namely the need to refer to the heritage development. Therefore, this work can only be considered as an entry in necessity of the local development. Furthermore, it can also be seen as a methodological confusion and discord in the book.

Methodology is important in every science. Legal studies, for a long time, has been in the deficiency of suitable methodology and methods of doing research. In spite of this specific deficiency, in other fields of human sciences, such as management, there exist some advancements that can solve many issues in legal studies. Because of the absence of modern research methods in legal studies, it has been a long time that we have seen an obvious downtrend in this field. In spite of this unacceptable practice in law science, we see impressive movements and advancements in management science. Therefore, this paper by analyzing the book “ Method of Research in Legal Studies”, written by Dr. Javid tries to make these two fields, law and management, closer, hoping that in the future, the rapprochement of these two fields can solve the issues of society by applying new methods of management sciences to law sciences.

Philosophy of Money is the most important work of Georg Simmel that is reconsidered nowadays in academies after that was neglected during the last century. In contrast to its title, this book is not about economics. It is a book on the multidisciplinary subject in the fields of philosophy, culture, psychology, social sciences, and economics. This article has two goals; first, to introduce the content of this work briefly and second, to analyze the relation of this book to academic specialization in scientific disciplines. For the first purpose, the most important concepts of the Philosophy of Money are reviewed briefly. The second purpose is considered from two aspects; first, what are the reasons for reconsidering this work in academies nowadays, after a century of neglect? And second, what relevance can this work hold to the humanities and social sciences’ situation in Iran? Therefore, in the first place, the Simmel’s theory of social forms is reviewed, and then upon it, concepts such as objectification, ramification, subject-object, modernity, aesthetics, end-mean, and the form of religion are discussed. In appraising the relevance of Philosophy of Money to academic specialization in the contemporary world and especially to the academic atmosphere in Iran, nowadays phenomena of the booming of interdisciplinary research in humanities and social sciences and the relation of religion to these sciences are considered.

Historians and scholars have cited many reasons for Sasanian’s defeat by the Arab. In 2008, Parvaneh Pourshariati revived this topic by publishing the book Decline and Fall of the Sasanian Empire: The Sasanian–Parthian Confederacy and the Arab Conquest of Iran. With an innovative and rare methodology, she presented a new and rare narrative of the fall of the Sasanian. Analyzing written sources and archaeological evidence, Pourshariati acknowledges that the Sasanian kingdom consisted of the Sasanian-Parthian confederacy and by not supporting the Sasanian on behalf of Parthian dynasties, the Arab succeeded to come to an end the Sasanian kingdom. Some of the shortcomings of the book are the acceptance of some narratives and interpretations uncritically, the lack of attention to the final impact of the Sasanian’s war with the Romans and its impact on the decline of this dynasty, the lack of proper analysis of archaeological evidence, and most importantly, little attention to environmental disasters and severe damage to the irrigation system of Mesopotamia at the end of the Sasanian epoch. The following article tries to examine these shortcomings and will evaluate the book in light of the mentioned cases.

Thinking about history has increased and gained a wide range of changes in recent decades. If we consider the “Philosophy of History” to be the result of these changes, given the almost great distance between us Iranians and the world level of these studies, the importance of the methodical awareness of new studies and approaches in this issue becomes clear. “History by Narrative of Philosophy: From Herodotus to Alain Badiou”, deserves to be read as an outstanding book in this field because of its characteristics. This article is a critical review of the book in the following topics: the ambiguity of the book’s title, the divergent multiplicity of the book’s purpose, the confusion in the chapters and sub-chapters, the ambiguity of the position of this book among the other works in this field, the obvious lack of paying attention to the Eastern and Islamic heritage, Confusion and inconsistency of the terms related to the currents of thought and finally ambiguity in new definition of history. After reflecting on the technical and editorial aspects of the work, the paper concludes that although the book fails to distinguish between the philosophical narrative of history and narrative of the philosophy of history, and so it has been far from the conventional mentality of historians, but it has many useful benefits for them.

Here, I examined the most recent “edition” of Avicenna’s Dānešnāmeh-ye ʿAlāyī published by Mawlā Publishing house. With this aim, I provided an overview of the editorial and publishing genealogy of the Dānešnāmeh, and then of Mawlā’s edition. I considered a number of errors and shortcomings exhibited by the latter, whilst acknowledging some of its merits. Identifying certain systematic flaws in the editorial techniques that inform Mawlā’s edition, on the one hand, and a structural mistake that has entirely ruined one of the main philosophical innovations of the Dānešnāmeh, on the other hand, I detected that Mawlā’s “edition” is an unprofessional reprint of the previous editions done by Moʿīn, Meškāt and Bīneš. I observed that the long preface to the text bears no relation to the Dānešnāmeh, and provides scholars with no useful insight into either Avicennan philosophy or the Dānešnāmeh. Concluding that Mawlā’s “edition” is woefully lacking, I suggest that it has no advantage over the previous standard editions.

This study is attempted to review the book “education in NahjulBalagha” by “AbdAlmajidZahadat”. The importance of this review is in its topic concerning education in NahjulBalagha. The significance of this review is also due to the point that this subject is the academic unit both in master’s and PhD programs in philosophy of Islamic education. The objective of this research review is to detect the strengths and weaknesses of the work as an academic textbook and to help it be corrected and completed so as to be used in education and research courses of higher education. The review method was citation analysis based on the review model proposed by Institute of Humanities and Cultural Studies, the council for investigation of humanities books and texts. In this model, a “general introduction”is provided and then “form analysis (advantages and shortcomings)” and “content analysis (advantages and shortcomings)” are carried out. The research results reveal that this book is approved concerning its topics and expressing and explaining the documentations. However, regarding content comprehensiveness and its compatibility with the curriculum presented by the ministry of science, research and technologyand thorough and deep consideration of the discussions relevant to Imam Ali’s educational viewpoint in NahjulBalagha requires fundamental revision. Moreover, the content of the book doesn’t cover all viewpoints of Imam Ali in various dimensions of education and training. Therefore, the title of this book is too general for its content.

Compiling textbooks and supplementary textbooks, enjoying the educational, scholastic, and research standards, is essential for university courses. In recent years, several organizations and institutes such as the Center for Studying and Compiling University Books in Humanities (SAMT), the Research Center for Humanities and Cultural Studies, the Research Center of Seminary and University, Payam Noor University, among others, are active in publishing such books. Under the auspices of such centers, many history books have been compiled by researchers and teachers of history, and some of these books have been assigned as textbooks for universities. What is lacking is a series of books reviewing such textbooks so that they may increase in richness. Reviews can serve as guides for future writers since they show the strengths as well as the shortcomings of university books. The present work is a review of a book recently published under the title of The Knowledge and Criticism of the History of Iran after Islam. The book has been assigned as a textbook for students of history. Results of the present review show that although the above-mentioned book is an appropriate textbook, it suffers from some shortcomings in terms of both form and content.

This paper aims to look at the form and the content of a book entitled, A Diachronic Narrative Study: On the Rhetorics of Persian Folktales and Literary Fictions (Safi, 20015) in a much more critical way, taken mostly from the narratological approaches. Firstly, the main four chapters of the book are reviewed. The first chapter introduces the concept of “Metalepsis”, taken from Genette (1980, 1988). It is said that the writer has made no good effort to support his claims on this concept. The second chapter discusses “Ravayatgardani”, i.e, a change in the process of narration, but again the writer has not been successful in the categorization of Revayargardani. The third chapter has taken the second pronoun into consideration. Finally, the writer has gone to study the hypothetical focalization in chapter four, and has been successful to a large extant in dealing with such a concept. At the same time, some claims are made for and against of what the writer has stated within each chapter. While appreciating the efforts made by the writer all through the analysis of the book, some suggestions are made for the writer to take into his consideration.

The aim of this article is to critically evaluate Sociology of Revolution and Social Revolutions written by Mohamad Taghi Sabzeie. The author attempts to provide a book for sociology of revolution. In this book, at first, the concept of revolution and similar concepts like coup, riot, and social movement have been raised. Second, the process of revolution’s elements (ideology, mobilization, organizing and leadership) was taken into consideration. Then the author deals with the explanation of revolution. In this work, after mentioning the process and explanation of revolution, the consequences of revolution (social changes in post revolution society) have been raised. Finally, in the last chapter, different kinds of revolution like republican, communist, etc. are examined. The most important outcome of thecritical evaluation of this work with respect to the format is the loss of proper equivalence for English words. With regard to the content the loss of logical coherence is observed. At last, the author’s main objectives, which include offering theories about the revolution and paying attention to social revolutions, are not met which the main shortcomings of the present book.

The present study was conducted with the aim of the pathology of internship implementation in the field of law among undergraduates. This study adopted a mixed approach. In the qualitative section, interviews were conducted with 28 experts, faculty members, lawyers, and graduate students from the University of Isfahan. The statistical population of the quantitative section of this study was students in, and graduates of 2014-2017 in psychology, 115 of whom were selected by stratified random sampling method. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and researcher-made questionnaires. The results of the quantitative research showed that the most important obstacle in the successful implementation of the internship is the lack of attention of academic authorities to the practical courses and the lack of cooperation between the university and non-academic centers for conducting an internship course. Participants in the interview also emphasized that the internship courses are mostly ignored, and there are a large number of law students, hence the most important disadvantages of the internship. Educational planners can use the results of this study to improve the curriculum of other courses in humanities.

Anna Zelkina in her book, entitled “Islamic Movement at North Caucasus”, the original name of which is “In Quest for God and Freedom: The Sufi Response to the Russian Advance in the North Caucasus”, printed in London, discusses the relation between ideas and reality, especially how a religion can challenge values, social system, and cultural laws of a society. She especially attends to the effects of a mystical, political, and historical phenomenon which acted when Russian troops attacked Caucasus about 300 years ago. In this article, we study different parts of her book and discuss her view of Sufism. We also debate contextual poverty and potency of the book and introduce all the seasons of her book. As far as the structure critique is concerned, we have discussed the translational problems. The methodology of the article is documentary especially with library sources. The conclusion shows that by political view to cultural identity of Caucasian Muslims, Sufism is a way for staying in front of despotic and irreligious rulers, like Russian ones.

Given that the book The History of Iranian Studies in Russia is one of the most recent works in the field of Iranian studies in Russia, the author was expected to critique the achievements of Russian Iranologists with an analytical approach; especially for the fact that, during the communist era, the Russians attached special importance to Iranian studies in line with the plans and policies of the ruling Soviet party. Because in the Soviet period, Iranian studies were based on the course of historical one-line theory and the proof of historical determinism. These works had a great impact on the intellectual, political, and social atmosphere of Iran in recent decades. As a result, the critique of the Russians' record in this field could have opened new perspectives in the field of Iranian studies (Iranology), while the book under review provides a brief and hasty record of the trend of Iranology in the three-hundred-year history of this science in Russia. One of the most important reasons for the dispersion of the book’s contents was to choose a general title for the present study. So, the indicators studied by the author cover a wide range of topics and contents in the field of Iranian studies in Russia. The indicators studied in the present book should be included in the scope of encyclopedia research. The present article tries to critique and analyze the topics and indicators of the present book by the method of content analysis and scientific critique.

In the present article, the most significant drawbacks of the mentioned book include: not so suitable notes for poems, incomplete selection of poems, incorrect explanations for some verses, changing the tastes of words from poems without any explanation about them, deleting some of the sources referred to in the book description, inadequate, inaccurate or unnecessary description, and editorial and writing flaws have been examined. By presenting these problems, the author hopes that the authors of academic literary excerpts will pay more attention to their writings and dress up the book from the mentioned problems in the subsequent editions.

In 1970s, Jean-François Lyotard wrote The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge at the request of the president of Conseil des Universities, government of Quebec. In this book, he argues that the conditions of communities have changed. Knowledge and information have undergone the dominance of technology in general, and computers in particular. Besides these effects on knowledge, Lyotard has named this the end of the industrial age and mass production, “The Postmodern Era”. In his book, he continues by criticizing the knowledge under the dominance and control of technology. He discusses the incredulity toward metanarratives, the knell of the age of the professor, legitimation of knowledge, as well as narrative and scientific knowledge. “The Postmodern condition” is in a sense a forerunner of postmodern thinking. Instead of starting from power struggle to maintain the global capitalist system, it starts from technology, and this may be the weak point of this work. There are many different reviews on this report which have contributed to the growth of postmodern thoughts, and it is recommended for all audiences interested in postmodern topics.

One of the remarkable features of the book is the use of historical routines and trends in paying attention to the fundamental and modern concepts of political philosophy versus political science and reviving the normative attitude towards political affairs. In this article, the book is reviewed from the perspective of method and theoretical basis and analysis of data, and in general concludes that despite the use of new methods of writing, and structuring the text, and creating a content and form appeal to the audience, this book has not been able to show a proper analysis and explanation of the application of political philosophy in the problems of the social day. In this article, the reason for such a situation in the author’s strategic departure from attention and focus on political philosophy, from the fourth chapter onwards, scattering and confusion in the design of very diverse topics and phenomena and semantic and conceptual imbalance in expressing the views of philosophers and political thinkers are observed.
