Prolegomena to a Theory of Language, the main work of Louis Hjelmslev, is an account of his “Glossematics” which is a complex formal theory about the nature of linguistic knowledge and the structure of human understanding in general. The current paper starts with a brief evaluation of a newly released Persian translation of this work; the problem triggering a hermeneutic interpretation of Hjelmslev’s theory in the light of Kant’s “pure reason” in the second part of the current paper is a claim about the potentials of “Glossematics” to be revived as an operational theory of linguistic epistemology in the current mainstream of Linguistics. I have shown that, like any other structural theory of human understanding, basing the “necessity” of the formal propositions of “Glossematics” on the notion of “structure” is the theory’s Achilles heel making this initially intended “self-contained” theory change into a paradoxically “transcendental” epistemology. This transcendence in turn, puts Glossematics in the same boat with Nativist epistemological schools, which are all vulnerable to similar challenges. In conclusion, Hjelmslev’s theory of “Glossematics” is shown to be another “Objectivist” theory that is ruled out by the current findings in Cognitive Sciences.

Studying some of Mahvash Ghavimi’s works in the academic and general area shows that she attaches significant importance to textual approaches. Contrary to many books that only explain the theories, Ghavimi in her three books, Sher No Dar Bouteh Naghd (Modern Poetry Criticism), Ava and Elgha (Sound and Suggestion), and Gozari Bar Dastan Nevisi (A study on Writing a story), after introducing Russian Formalism and French Structuralism to readers, in order to prove their effectiveness in literary research, uses them in examining and analyzing different types of Persian literature texts. This study tries to explore the origins and consequences of this approach in addition to Ghavimi’s method of using a textual approaches in the analysis of Persian texts. Although Ghavimi acts correctly in her analysis of Persian poems and novels with the help of textual approaches, she sometimes ignores its fundamentals, such as avoid judging and evaluating, as well as avoiding nationalism in the study of literature. Her emotional bond to the contextual approach, both in theory and in practice, is so profound that she cannot measure it accurately.

The book, A Short Guide to Writing about Film, is a description of how to analyze movies. The book closely linked to thinking about film and writing about it. To achieve this goal, the author focuses on defining the terminology and professional concepts of cinema as well as movie analysis approaches. For analysis and critique, it is necessary to have a theoretical plan to carefully analyze the movies, but the described approaches in this book, are not the main movie analysis approaches, and for instance, approaches like formalism and ideology lack a theoretical basis. More specifically, in this book, formalism is considered the same as structuralism.

Contrary to the tradition of some scholars such as Forouzanfar, Homaee, Zarrinkoub who mainly discussed life and thought of the author / poet, some of the works by Dr. Shafiee Kadkani are specific and different because they have emphasized the question of form and the form of literary work apart from the content and theme, and they have sometimes written books (poetry, music) or perfectly have crafted oriented articles (based on formalist). Resurrection of Words: A Lesson of Speeches on Literary Theory of Russian Formalists has been the most formalist work by him which is discussed in the introduction of the formalism (history, teachings and characters affected), and some of his articles have been included which have been written with inspiration from their ideas. With all the advantages that this book has (such as all works by Dr. Shafiee Kadkani), there are some criticisms leveled against it. The main criticisms are as follows: 1- incomplete expression (and possibly incorrect) background / context of the emergence of Russian Formalism, 2- lack of coherence of theories presented by the author, 3- some irrefutable and non-scientific propositions in the book and 4-, the inclusion of chapters such as "potter motif evolution in the poetry of Omar Khayyam" which is not consistent with formalism space of the book of resurrection of words.
