He does this by tracing the fundamental contradictions of the culture of the region. Louay Safi reviewed the formation of the mentality of development in ideas of Descartes and Kant, then he discussed the comparison of two theoretical models of Marxian and Weberian development. He, through giving priority to structures of knowledge and culture, clarified his position on this matter. The author has analyzed the notion of intellectuals in the Muslim world since the beginning of facing with two layers of the Western modern civilization, the colonial and technological progress. He tried to analyze Arab and Muslim scholars' exposure to the problem of tradition-modernity through showing how they deal with the Islamic and Arabic heritages. Safi, finally, believed that a local development would be achieved by means of an active and a critical return to the Arab Islamic heritage; and the path of development leads not only to the West. Although the author has claims that he has gone beyond the Western models, in the end, he has just presented an overall view, namely the need to refer to the heritage development. Therefore, this work can only be considered as an entry in necessity of the local development. Furthermore, it can also be seen as a methodological confusion and discord in the book.}, keywords = {Tradition-Modernity,Non-western Development,contemporary Arab Thought,Louay Safi,Indigenization of the Humanities,Facing Heritage}, title_fa = {نقدی بر کتاب چالش مدرنیته؛ جهان عرب در جست‌وجوی اصالت}, abstract_fa = {هدف نویسندۀ کتاب موردبررسی یافتن پاسخی برای شکست پروژۀ نوسازی در خاورمیانه ازطریق ردیابی ناسازواری‌های مبنایی توسعه با فرهنگ این منطقه است. لؤی صافی ابتدا شکل‌گیری ذهنیت توسعه در آرای دکارت و کانت را مرور کرده؛ سپس، به مقایسۀ دو مدل مارکسی و وبری توسعه ازحیث نظری پرداخته است. او با اولویت‌دادن به ساختارهای آگاهی و فرهنگ موضع خود را در این زمینه مشخص می‌کند. سطح تحلیل نویسنده و اندیشۀ متفکران و روشن‌فکران جهان اسلام از ابتدای رویارویی آن‌ها با دو رویۀ تمدن مدرن غرب، ‌یعنی استعمار و پیشرفت تکنولوژیک، است. او تلاش کرده است تا مواجهۀ اندیشمندان مسلمان و عمدتاً عرب با معضلۀ سنت ـ مدرنیته را ازطریق نحوۀ برخورد آنان با میراث اسلامی و عربی نمایان سازد. درنهایت، صافی بر آن است که راه توسعه تنها از غرب نمی‌گذرد و می‌توان با بازگشت فعالانه و انتقادی به میراث اسلامی و عربی به توسعۀ بومی دست یافت. باوجودی‌که نویسنده ادعا می‌کند از مدل‌های غربی فراتر رفته، درنهایت خود به ارائۀ یک نظر کلی یعنی همان ضرورت رجوع به میراث در امر توسعه بسنده می‌کند؛ ازاین‌رو، می‌توان این اثر را صرفاً به‌عنوان مدخلی درباب ضرورت توسعۀ بومی در نظر گرفت. به‌علاوه، ازحیث روش‌شناختی نیز ابهامات و ایهاماتی در کتاب دیده می‌شود.}, keywords_fa = {سنت ـ مدرنیته,توسعۀ غیرغربی,اندیشۀ معاصر عرب,لؤی صافی,بومی‌سازی علوم انسانی,رجوع به تراث}, url = {https://criticalstudy.ihcs.ac.ir/article_2900.html}, eprint = {https://criticalstudy.ihcs.ac.ir/article_2900_2249596fc96cfa6e3c0f697c668c562f.pdf} }
