چکیده
مقدمهای بر فلسفۀ قرون وسطی گزارشی است دربارۀ بعضی از مفاهیم بنیادین فلسفه، مثل ایمان و وحی، خدا، استعلائیات، نفس و ... نزد برخی از اندیشمندان برجستۀ سده‌های میانی، همچون آنسلم و توماس آکویناس. نویسندۀ اثر در اغلب مباحث، ضمن اشاره به ریشه‌های بحث در دورۀ باستان، نشان داده است که چگونه عالمان مسیحی با بهره‌گرفتن از دیدگاه‌های فیلسوفان بزرگ یونانی در راستای ایجاد مبانی مستحکم و عقلانی برای آموزه‌های دینی مسیحیت تلاش کرده‌اند. وی سده‌های میانی را نه‌تنها دوران انقطاع رویکردهای فلسفی نمی‌داند، بلکه بر این باور است که همان‌گونه که اندیشه‌های یونانیان زمینه‌ساز شکوفایی فکری در قرون وسطی شد، تفکرات اندیشمندان آن دوران نیز سبب پیدایش و بالندگی جریان‌های فکری و فلسفی دورۀ رنسانس شد. ایشان با جدیت از سودمندی مطالعه و بررسی فلسفۀ قرون وسطی دفاع می‌کند.

This book is a report on some of the fundamental concepts of philosophy such as faith, revelation, God, self, transcendence and so on, from the view point of Anselm and Thomas Aquinas and other great scholars of medieval ages. The writer has mostly focused on historical roots of the phenomena and using perspectives of ancient Greek philosophers indicated how Christian scholars have applied these ideas to construct a strong rational foundation for religious teachings of Christianity. He not only does not consider the medieval ages to be an end to philosophical approaches but believes that their thoughts has brought about flourishing and nurturing of intellectual and philosophical streams of Renaissance, just like the way ancient Greek philosophers have impacted upon medieval ages. He utterly supports efficacy of studying and contemplation of philosophy of medieval ages.
