This paper attempts to extend Ladislav Kesner and Richard Elbridge's insights toward collectivist explanation in art historiography in response to Branko Mitrovic's critique in Rage and Denials. A counterexample situation in architectural historiography is propounded to elucidate how a collectivist explanation in a moderate realist form is not only apt but, in some cases, inevitable. It relies on our primary claim, the possibility of some non-essentialist, non-ideological, non-deterministic and non-egocentric collectivist explanations, regarding the main faults assigned to collectivist stances in art historiography by Branko Mitrovic. The Counterexample situation explains the possible actions not implemented and decisions not taken in designing a building. In addition to the choices that led to the final formulation of the artwork, one must also consider the other options available, those possible choices that were left out, to clarify feasible limitations and, conversely, the choices that led to the emergence of the work. Even considering that all final decisions merely result from chemical interactions in actors' brains, one cannot judge alternative options the same way, some of which did not even occur in the artist's mind or the network of agents involved. The repetition of dismissing these alternative options during a long-durée, thus the formation of a pattern, cannot be explained by the individualistic stance proposed by Mitrovic.

Realism is a powerful materialization of art that appeared in 19th century in literature and painting and is still ongoing. A realism artist creates logic and relations in a work of art that comes from new sciences and social relations related to modern society. Meanwhile, Cinema as modern era art has close connections with realism for image recording and we know that from the earliest films of Lumiere brothers. with the addition of sound and color to basic silent movies, this relation continued and from mid 20th-century attitudes for social realism were increased which was reflected in works of Iitalian Neorealists and “Andre Bazin” theories. This article is a survey of the book An Approach to Realism, Cinema and the Expression of Religious Concepts that was written by Vahid Hayati that surveyed the capacities of cinema realism to express religious concepts and it is about distinguishing the common realism that reaches its climax at Neorealism movement, and a form of realism that is common to express religious concepts. In this article, Hayati’s opinions about the religious realism concept were shown. He believes this manifested in the works of Majid Majidi and especially “Children of Heaven”. It criticized his point of view about similarities between realism in Islamic and religious concepts and cinematic concept and differences based on epistemology.

The current article presents a review, translation, and analysis on the brief and invaluable Kitāb al-Nagham of Yhaya ibn alMunajjim - a scientist in third century - in which there is Isḥāq alMawșilī’s account on the "Old School of Qina". This School, which existed before translating Greek books and is largely inspired by the pre-Islamic music, is much different, regarding the culture, from what alFarabi introduced. The core of this treatise is first to study the number the main notes and position them on the Oud and then explicating the notion of "Majrā" which was innovated by Isḥāq alMawșilī‘s analysis of the notation system indicates that the system is founded on ten notes which can develop into two Majrās: Binsir and Vustā consisting of eight and seven notes respectively. These two are different in at least two notes and have the other notes in common. The analysis also disproves what has been asserted so far and that Majrā is similar to mode and scale. The term “Imād” is introduced as the standard note to tune instruments accordingly. Terms such as “Saut” and “Tabaqa” which are used in the text have different meanings than what they denote today. The treatise also discusses the number and the purpose of oud’s strings. This treatise is one of the oldest works in theoretical music which has adopted an analytical approach and at the same time is similar to the practical tradition of music. This current article includes a translation of the original text in Persian, based on which a text-oriented analysis and an explication of alMunajjim’s ideas along with criticism of older accounts are presented.

Ajā'ib al-Makhlūqāt is one of the illustrated manuscripts available in the Central Library of Astan Quds Razavi. This book was written by Qazvini in the encyclopedic order in the seventh century AH. This research has selected version 35212 from among three illustrated copies available in Astan Quds library and has examined its human-icon from among the icons. In the selected version, 23 images belong to human-images, which are classified into two categories. The first category consists of male or female constellations that appear in the period and have a natural structure, and the second category is imaginary creatures derived from myths and folk tales in the form of a combination of human-animal is depicted. The paintings are drawn in the style of the Jalayri School. Although the school was influenced by Chinese painting, it took on Iranian culture and, in addition to innovation, played an important role in the development of the Herat school, which was the pinnacle of Iranian painting. In this research, an attempt is made to investigate the degree of adaptation of the text with the drawings in the selected version. The research has a descriptive-analytical method and has been done through documentary and field research. The results show that the illustrations serve the text and help the reader to identify the text's descriptions and understand them better. Wherever the artist feels the need to break the boundary between fantasy and reality, the images are more appealing. The figures are all facing west and east, with none facing each other. The figures are usually in a frame that separates them from the text.

This research is based on a structured analysis of the book written by Pierre Bourdieu, called Photography, a Middle-Brow Art. This study is a descriptive analysis of the different sections of the book from different perspectives. In this research, we considered the Persian translation of the book. Moreover, the origin of the work and the effectiveness of its contents after more than half a century from its publication, along with its advantages and disadvantages were discussed. We also compared the Persian translation to the English version. The translation of the work was also examined, which revealed that the book has a decent translation quality, despite detecting a few errors in some sections. It can be concluded that due to the long time since its publication and the speed of change in its concerning fields, namely sociology and photography, most arguments in the book can no longer be cited. Also, because the book contains discontinuous articles and does not have an explicit conclusion, it does not have the desired unity in general, which might result in the fact that each section can be read independently.

This article, which is a descriptive and analytical research and its qualitative data has been collected through the research method of libraries, has been organized with the aim of studying the stylistic developments of Iranian art after the Mongol invasion and while trying to review the book “Seven Decorative Principles of Iranian Art” written by Yaghoub Azhand and to answer the basic question why in Qazvin school of Safavid period, these themes are mentioned as seven principles of Iranian art? It seems that the drawing of these motifs to the position of the "Seven Principles" was done in line with the policies of Shah Tahmaseb and with the aim of limiting the power of the Ghezelbas. The findings show that in order to achieve this goal, first the royal workshop and library of Tabriz were dissolved as an influential centers and promoters of Ghezelbashi thought, and in the next step, the visual elements of Iranian painting were regulated in two main and sub-areas. Placing elements such as mobility, coloring, and composition in the field of Iranian painting subdivisions meant reducing the importance of the principles governing the Ghezelbashi method, and in contrast emphasizing the arrangement under the heading of the "Seven Principles of Iranian Art" while setting the policy. The nascent Qazvin school in a different direction from Tabriz II school, gave it special credit.

The cultural identity of a society is influenced by many factors, including religion, customs, art, and especially architecture. Moreover, the practical aspect of architecture in human life has made it important in the formation of civilizations such as Islam. The objective appearance of this civilization in the form of valuable artistic structures is due to the knowledge and skill of prominent architects like Sinan. Therefore, to get acquainted with architects and their unique perspectives, studying of remain historical cited texts is considerable. Due to Sinan's special place in the development of Ottoman architecture, as well as Islamic architecture, exploring the texts related to him, especially what was said by Sinan, is fruitful. Regarding this article, the Persian translation of his two valuable treatises in the form of the book "Tezkiretü'l-Bünyan and Tezkiretü'l-Ebniye: Mimar Sinan Memories" has been reviewed. So, after presenting formic characteristics of the book, historical aspects of pre-modern architecture and architects of Islamic world, the life and works of Sinan, his Biography, his treatise’s introduction and finally a comparison between them and a similar text, Risale-yi Mimariye are discussed; Hence this comparison will be effective in better understanding the thoughts of the architects of that time, especially Sinan.

The goals of art education include art production, aesthetics, art criticism and art history. The use of these goals and their types are specified in different parts of the book. The main question that the authors seek to answer is; what are the goals of the art education used in the content of the eighth-grade culture and art book? This research is a descriptive and survey type that has been done with a questionnaire using a simple random sampling method among 54 art teachers in Shiraz. The findings have been analyzed quantitatively. The findings of this study show that the goals of art education in the total content of the book are moderate and the design chapter has the most application compared to other chapters of the book. "History of art" as one of the goals of art education in the design chapter and the purpose of "art production" in the chapter of illustration, photography and calligraphy have been most used. According to art experts, the most important goal of art education is to cultivate creativity.

"Transcendental Style in Cinema, Ozu, Bresson, Dreyer" by Paul Schrader, the famous American critic, writer, and director, is one of the few books that explores the relationship between cinema, religion, and related elements beyond various fields such as Semiotics. This book was translated in 2003 by Mohammad Gozarabadi in Iran. The second edition of the book that was published in 2018 included the introduction of slow cinema and Schrader's revision of some of the concepts of this style. The importance of this book could be seen in the method of studying and confronting religion and its elements. Using profound philosophical concepts and Christian background, Schrader establishes stylistic stages in which the most important movies could be read and analyzed through them. This style aims to discover the state in which the transcendental and spiritual manner is expressed in cinema. Therefore, firstly the book and the author are introduced and then by considering both editions, all the concepts in the book are discussed and finally the book is criticized from different aspects. The results will demonstrate that the main criticisms on this book can be seen in the levels of method and content.

This article tries to analyze and critique the book Aesthetics of Photography, according to set criteria. Francois Soulages, the author of this book, is an experienced professor in the field of aesthetics and philosophy of art in France. The book has an acceptable quality of print and published. There are few typographical errors, fluent prose, and footnotes, references, indexes, and bibliographies. Despite a few minor flaws, the book sounds well. The translation of the book to Persian is also fine. Thematic variety and proper distribution of the book's contents in three general sections and 12 chapters have been done very cleverly. In terms of content, the book has been able to challenge the issues related to the aesthetics of photography from different perspectives and useful case studies. By constantly using the method of dialectical reasoning between conventional and unconventional metrics (in terms of type and time), Soulages has done very well in understanding the concepts of contemporary photographic aesthetics from the standpoint of a French expert and has been able to provide a useful perspective on contemporary aesthetic effects. The introduction of some influential photographers of late is also one of the desirable contributions of the book. The book contains very useful information for the university photography community in our country.

Bahram Beizayi is one of the most important artists in the field of drama in Iran. Nevertheless, after nearly 60 years of Beizai's artistic activity, and in the tumult of opponents and proponents of his works, what can be seen and heard is about what he says, not how he says: from mythological and historical critiques to feminist and political critiques that interpret his works in the politics of the time. In this article, we try to examine 3 elliptical works including "The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad", "Reed Curtain" and "Facing Mirrors" from the perspective of narrative form. Elliptical screenplays are writings that are published before they can be made. From this perspective, we encounter a unique phenomenon that allows screenwriters to access, research and study the screenplay itself - even before the film is made. The way to explain and examine these works is to examine the narrative style and, in particular, the timing of the narrative, relying on the views of Gerard Genette, the French structuralist narrator. The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between time and causality as the basis of a narrative in Elliptical works and to explain how he views the universe, focusing on the form of his works.

These works show the attitude, culture, cover, religion, and progress in the life of the past in ancient Iran. These figurines included animals, humans, and even mythological and religious sculptures that were produced in each period according to the knowledge of the day with their own materials and methods. Each of these works had its own consumption and special application according to human needs at the same time and the changes in attitude, religion, beliefs, and daily life of the time made the figurines with different coverings, arrangements, decorations, exaggerations, and accents. The Iconography of pre-Islamic woman in Iran is a translation of two articles by Aurelie Daems, a Belgian researcher and archaeologist, published by Ali Akbar Vahdati in 2009. However, this book provides very useful and valuable information to researchers and archaeologists, but like any other scientific work, it has its drawbacks.

Today the design development and management of its process has become increasingly important. Based on the book review model, this article examines and critiques a book in the field of design development and planning with the aim of recognizing the features of design texts. “The Design Brief book” contains a collection of discussions, lectures and seminars by a well-known director and consultant of design strategies in the field of organizational identity management. The book content is written in two general sections: Design brief and design management. This descriptive-analytical study pays attention to the visual and technical characteristics of the book as well as the meaning of the content text. Considering the visual literacy of book’s audience, the color combination of the cover, lettering, and page layout of the book, needs to be revised and edited. Also, the lack of visualization and image tools leads to poor functioning and less attractiveness of the pages. The findings of the research in the study of the text indicate that the content of the book lacks an analytical approach to the subjects. The thematic relationship between the content of some chapters is not sufficiently coherent, although it does include some key points in the design of cryptographic design and design management.

Explaining the basics and knowing the alphabet of each phenomenon is necessary to understand the concepts, content foundations, and existential philosophy. This is especially important in the field of humanities and has been considered by contemporary thinkers. Due to its geographical extent and semantic values, Islamic art has certain theoretical and practical principles that are very similar to the basis of traditional arts. The compiler of the book "Theoretical Foundations" has tried to explain the principles, principles and concepts of this art by combining the knowledge and opinion of experts and researchers active in various fields of Islamic art into a credible and valid scientific text. In this article, while introducing the published sections and articles, describing and interpreting the main themes mentioned in each text, it has been criticized and evaluated. The findings of this critical study indicate that the unity of existence and the existence of common and hidden beliefs in all works show a semantic continuity and dependence on a single origin. The publication of the book "Theoretical Foundations" in order to introduce the characteristics and moral, value and mystical views of Islamic art is a useful step that has been made available to researchers, students and enthusiasts in this field today as a valid and reliable source.

Revitalization plays an important role in protecting the historical buildings, which simultaneously protects the culture and the body. This approach has played an important economic role. Today, many revitalization projects, regardless of the importance of cultural factors and with a purely economic perspective, have caused numerous damages in historical contexts. Therefore, by regulating the principles of revitalization, new use can be assigned to the monument. Reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of these plans can be effective. This underscores the importance of the critique of revitalization projects and how to intervene in them. In addition to cultural and economic returns, principled restoration is also an effective approach to encourage people to participate and invest in the restoration of historic collections. Historic houses are the most remnants of Iran's architectural heritage, the multiplicity and diversity of that in historical contexts provide good potential as urban catalysts. This research has been done by reviewing documents, field studies, and libraries and by the qualitative research method. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effective features in reviving one of the historical houses of Kashan city called "Manouchehri House" which is considered as a case study in this regard due to being a candidate for the Aga-Khan-Award and cultural economic prosperity provided by a tourist-accommodation.

The goal of this critic is to express the significance of interdisciplinary studies and also is a survey in how methodically organized studies is used in analyzing artworks. Thus this study criticizes and studies the form and contents in the book and also author’s opinions about analyzing and referring to the sources according to Iconology method. In its form, the book looks into the basic relations between the form and subject in analyzing art forms and shows analyzing and interpreting artworks according to their historical context in which they originated and the multiplicity of visual and textual sources which refers to the artworks. By the way, in some cases missing references are seen and the order in using them in the text is not also correct and reliable references are needed, especially sources of Islamic philosophy which have caused some limitations in using the book in some related conditions. Despite these problems, researchers can go further than a mere Formal study by using interdisciplinary and in order to make an understanding about Symbolic Meaning and Contents of artworks, they can have fruitful research.

The fantasy genre is of the most problematic genres in cinema and has been neglected by cinema adherents for decades. Although the first so-called fantasy works date back to the early years of cinema and the works of George Millis, by the late 1970s, for many reasons, including the relatively high cost of producing such works and the lack of progress in cinematic technology, fewer fantasy works appeared in cinema. One of the important theoretical issues about fantasy works is the confusion of such films with other works of cinema such as horror and science fiction. An accurate definition of the concept of fantasy is problematic; Therefore, considering the creation of brilliant works that carry the attribute of fantasy after the 21st century, and the audience's interest in these works in recent times, as well as the growth of cinematic technology, find specific frameworks to determine the characteristics of fantasy works and distinguish them from other similar works such as science-fiction and horror seem necessary. The Importance of “The Fantasy Film” book by” “Katherine A. Fowkes”, the translation of “Ali Zafar Ghahremani Nejad” is due to the attempt to find answers to these questions and ambiguities that this kind of works have created among cinema people and therefore it is necessary to examine how the author explains the concept of fantasy. “Mystical Music” is a term that can include a wide range of meanings and many examples of music were defined as mystical in the Islamic period of Iran’s history and some still live on. This research is to define mystical music based on its significance in culture and its examples, rather than via studying semantics or the etymology of the words. This study will then introduce the semantic horizon of mystical music instead of one single sense of the term. To do so, first, the significance spectrum of the terms music and mysticism is studied, and then examples are sorted into four categories: the relationship between music and mystical ontology, the relationship of music and intrinsic aspects of culture, music with a mystical influence and its different types in mystical literature, and music in Sufists rituals. In general, twenty-one examples of mystical music will be briefly introduced. Each of these examples represents other instances, making up the spectrum across which the horizon of the meaning of mystical music is displayed.

In this book, the author examines the human image in the art of Arabs, Iranians, Gurkhas, and Ottomans. He has been a lecturer at the Museum of Islamic Art for many years and wrote the book in 2004. Although the author's efforts to collect research data are commendable, there are criticisms of the way research and methodological issues in the book are handled. Deficiencies in book methodology have led to the breakdown of communication between the book and the reader, despite the novelty of the research. The present article attempts to examine and explain the shortcomings of the methodology of the book and provide suggestions for their solution.

The Sassanid era is one of the most important periods in Iranian history, with remarkable works of art from this period. The decorative elements in the artworks of this period indicate the connection of beliefs and beliefs in human thought. The book “Investigation of Sassanid Steel Utensils from a Symbolic Viewpoint” was published by Neda Akhavan Aghdam in 1396 in the Academy of Art Publications. Besides the lack of a coherent order for the analysis of motifs, this book has also some form and content shortcomings. The present study, based on the library method, has critically criticized the book and evaluated its form and scientific content. In this regard, the deficiencies and critical comments of each of the topics are expressed below. Referring to the shortcomings aims to understand the concepts and to explain the symbolic aspects of motifs in Sasanian metal containers which are the results of this paper.
