Politics must be regarded as an arena upon which the opponents stand against one another paving the way for liberation, hegemony and the formation of regimes of truth. The belief to politics as an arena on which identitary oppositions delimit each other becomes dominant in Laclau and Mouffe’s language. These two characters aim at de-democratising the present democracies in order to formulate democracy in the post-democratic time. Therefore, the return of politics resulted from de-construction of the current western democracies insofar as the enemies turn into adversaries. The process of transforming politics and discourse to the political is the subject of this essay.

AbstractThis paper tries to analyze and criticize “Diplomacy Lessons” written by john Brady Kiesling. The book can be considered as a diary of an unsatisfied American Diplomat how resigned after the violent American-led invasion of Iraq. In fifteen chapters, Kiesling tried to study different aspects of the foreign policy issues, criticizing American foreign policy especially in the Bush terms. Despite the fact that the writers experiences makes the book a first handed reference for researchers and the clear and narrative style of the writer is an advantage, but his sever devotion to idealism which is widely criticized in theory and practice along with lack of conceptual and theoretical backgrounds can be considered the main disadvantages of this book.

AbstractThis paper discusses the book “Law of Peoples”, written by John Rawls. Rawls had given a new soul to the political theory after the positivism attack. He smoothed the progress of the liberalism and stretched the political liberalism; while worried about the individual liberties, limited the liberalism to its political aspect. In his last attempt, he expanded his theory to the international level, by introducing some kinds of the different peoples, liberal, decent, out of low and aggressive, among them, and tried to approve the efficiency of liberal principles to those who seek a world with less war and conflict. However, at the last part, the paper will review some critiques on the book.

In his book “Understanding Political Theories”, Spragens distinguishes between political science and political theory. The crises and problems in the domain of American politics lead the similar scholars to think that the extreme activism in American politics has deviated politics from its ultimate end which is management and public good. This issue became a motivation to write this article to show that alongside the high contribution of political science to the analysis and understanding of practical politics, the contribution of political theory should also be seen and it should be explained that although political theory is not a substitute for political science for Spragens, it fundamentally redesigns policy responsibilities in relation to goals and ideals of classics of Western politic thoughts. This article has an explanatory method and is based on the author's pattern i.e. focusing on the internal logic in political theory as well as explaining the concept of 'relation' as a category having both independent sides and guarantying the internal indicators of the relationship. The result is that the policy activism sometimes removes the main goal which is pursuing the public good from practical policy. Political theory can, with its diagnostic, critical, and concrete functions warns policy about forgetting the public affairs and invite scholars to a continuous solution.

John Rawls with the publication of "A Theory of Justice" is well known as one of the most important political philosophers of the twentieth century. In A Theory of Justice, Rawls argues for two basic principles of justice as are applicable for all human societies considering their moral diversity. Rawls's theory of justice that is embodied in these principles, in fact, defines justice in relation to the liberty and preserves justice on the basis of the value of liberty. He adopted a liberal approach to justice. This theory has been criticized by both liberals and anti-liberals. Robert Nozick is one of the foremost critics of the liberal approach. He believes that Rawl's theory of justice entails the continual intervention in the affairs relating to individuals and constant violations of individual freedoms. Anti-liberal communitarians were the most important critics of the theory of justice those who believe that this theory does not provide a proper understanding of society and individual. Rawls liberalism considers society as a common threat to attain individual interests and individual, in his view, is abstracted from the social relations, while this is the ends, purposes and the participations of individuals in various societies that determine their identity and position and give particular moral features to individuals' life. Communitarians believe Rawls's theory of justice requires an exact conception of the individual and his fundamental features. This makes one of the most central Rawl's claims, i.e., the fairness of his justice principles indefensible.

Recently, Iranian encounter with modernity, technologically or theoretically, has been tremendously addressed by many socio-political investigators. Among them, Farzin Vahdat, in his PhD thesis, now published as a book, asserts that in this encounter, Iranians are often on the wrong way. From the recognition of the positive aspect of modernity as the dominant, and simultaneously ignoring the emancipator aspect of it to coining the term “mediated subjectivity” in order to explore Iranians’ thought from the Constitutional revolution to the Islamic revolution, Vahdat emphasizes on this distorted conception of modernity in Iran. However, in doing so, he bears some categories which are not necessarily modern on the Iranians’ thought just to make his position positive. In order to show the points of strength and weakness of Vahdat’s idea, the present study attempts to review his book, entitled “God and Juggernaut: Iran’s Intellectual Encounter with Modernity”.

AbstractThe main focus of the present article reviews the book by Carl Schmitt's concept of political will by translating and publishing in Persian by Sohail Safari. The paper will attempt to introduce the concept of the political, critique and evaluate the form and content of the agenda. What are the main problem and the intellectual concerns? What motivated him to reflect their mental problem as a political theory written out? What is the author's purpose in pursuing this work? Given the context of Catholic upbringing (and fascination of the power of the Catholic Church in Bismarck era), along with legal training (rights as the mission) and the formation of different historical experiences in the measurement of depression (anger from the humiliation of Germany adopted between the two wars) and hope (the Weimar regime and to strengthen the political reconstruction), the main areas of criticism and ideation Schmidt in relation to ethics and politics, liberalism and modern democracy and political structure is shaped in the form of government.
