The book "Intellectuals and Politics" by Mark L. deals with the relationship between politics and intellectuals. More than anything, this book claims that in the subside era of grand metanarrative, enlightenment has ended, and intellectuals cannot be pioneers in changes such as in the past. Layla claims that the leading causes of the rise of totalitarian regimes, ruinous wars in the west, and philosophy politicization is the intellectuals' betrayal. Intellectuals who had great aspirations, but did not reach the desired results. They were mostly involved in hidden aspects of their life, which influenced their thinking and led to the combination of philosophy and practical politics. Thinkers whom Layla accuses are Heidegger, Arendt, Kojève, Benjamin, Foucault, and Derrida. The strength of the book is contextualism, and the weakness is the ethical critique of thinkers rather than a critique of their works.

One of the most important issues in constitutional law is the “Political Regimes”. In the division of political regimes, special attention is paid to totalitarianism. However, the source of inspiration for jurists to discuss political regimes is the views of political thinkers, because this issue has political nature. By studying of the political writings in this field, we realize that the theories of political thinkers are different from the views of jurists such as Abolfazl Ghazi and Seyyed Mohammad Hashemi. Here the criterion for discussion should be the writings of thinkers such as Hannah Arendt who have grown up in totalitarian regimes and have focused on this area. Review of the writings of these thinkers reveals that totalitarianism as a new example of the domination system in the last two centuries has features such as having a social basis, the existence of a single party, and is the same as the mass monarchy. In addition, totalitarianism is very different from dictatorship in terms of how the Rulers come to power, the need or not of popular support, the type of Rulerʼs relationship with other officials and so on. However, in the books of Constitutional Law Summary and Constitutional Law and Political Structures, totalitarianism is considered as one of the characteristics of mass monarchy and on the other hand, in the second work, totalitarianism is equated with dictatorship.

The main issue of this article is exploring the nature of imperialism as a fundamental phenomenon in new age which is connected to some subjects such as development, nation-state, bureaucracy, and citizenship. The importance and complexity of this issue led Arendt to analyze and critique its multiple aspects. The purpose of this research is the description, analysis and critique of some basic theoretical and historical dimensions of Arendt’s Imperialism and explanation of some aspects of her innovations and shortcomings. The methodology of Thomas A. Spragens on political theorists is used in this research. The outcome of our quest on Arendt’s treatise is that her central problem as a philosopher has been human beings and the ecology of mankind. She has helped for promotion and accuracy of political literature by finding the distinction between definitions of some concepts. In this way, she has clarified the complexities of her treatise. Although she has criticized the humanitarian aid of developed countries to less-developed states and sees it as imperialist, she has not offered a way out of this complex dilemma. To find the cause and analyses of phenomena of the modern age, such as the anti-Semitism and statelessness that Arendt found in racism, are examples of her innovations as a political theorist.

The political modernity is a book about the secularism and secular values. The author believes that current problems of society have roots in dedifferentiation between public and private sphere state and civil society and individuals and citizens. This book is based on the liberal and secular ideals and justifies the issues of secularism. However, Maurice Barbier assumes the west experience the ultimate experience of noble nations and suggests that surrendering such separations is destiny of all societies. He advises the countries deprived of political modernity not to have ambitious leaps and try to use treasure of their ancestors’ accumulated experiences and move forward gradually. Considering their model as a perfect one, Western countries made some problems for other communities. For instance, if Islamic societies prefer Islamic rules as a model for their problem solving and future perspective, secularism will not turn to a problem requiring to be dealt with. Rethinking and investigating weaknesses and strengths of content and structures of this book, it was revealed that the author of the book turns from sophisticated problem solving to problem making and unjustifiable pieces of advices.
