In the field of qualitative research, there are many reference books, each of which has gained good legitimacy and acceptance among readers for a reason. The book “Basics of Qualitative Research: Grounded Theory Procedures and Techniques” written by Strauss and Corbin and translated by Ebrahim Afshar, is one of the most successful books that has been written in this field, published 9 times and has been used as a reference book for postgraduate students. In this article, the attempt was to review the book in a descriptive-analytical manner, by mentioning the evidence and documents and based on evaluation criteria which the Council introduced for Reviewing Books and Text on Human Sciences. Criticisms were presented from both formal and content perspectives. According to this, on one hand, the main strengths of the book are content comprehensiveness about grounded theory, a coherent and structured view of the subject, and providing practical examples. On the other hand, this work has also some drawbacks, the most important of which are the lack of sufficient attention to the stage of preparing and presenting the research report, outdated topics despite numerous editions of the book, and the lack of attention to other qualitative research methods.

This article is a review of the Routledge Handbook of Planning Research Methods. The review attempts to summarize the content of the book and to show how understanding the methodology affects the work of academics and professionals. Among other methodology books, The Routledge Handbook is a genuine reference and the reasons can be summarized as follows: Unlike other dominant sources, this book has specifically explored the relations in the field of planning and stays within the discipline. It has also attempted to promote methodology from rigid and homogeneous entities to academics to the dynamic practices in the personal, social, and professional lives of researchers. Numerous articles in the book are mostly concerned with the link between theory and practice, and to establish this link they underpin the research production process. In the end, a brief evaluation of the content of the book is made and the necessity of incorporating it into the formal planning pedagogy is stated.

The book entitled Against Method 1 was influenced by Blaikie and Newman's thoughts. The focus of the book is on the basis of ontology, epistemology, and the value of research paradigms (five paradigms of positivism, interpretivism, critical paradigm, feminism, and pragmatism). This book has an easy writing which suggests that the author of the book has a complete acquaintance with the fundamentals of qualitative research. Nevertheless, the book deals with issues such as the ambiguity of its title, the categorization of the critical and historical-comparative paradigms in general paradigm of qualitative research, the use of many construed concepts and constituents translated and not being translated into it, the inappropriateness of the data collection with the title of the book, and most importantly the lack of relevance to the research strategy. Nevertheless, the book has a main role and place in Iran's qualitative research. However, in the current situation, attention to the logic of research, emphasizing the distinction between different types of qualitative research methodology, the achievement of practical examples of valid qualitative research, and ultimately the efforts to publish scientific findings globally, are of the present necessity in qualitative research in Iran.

Undoubtedly, choosing a proper and suitable methodology for a research is regarded as one of the most fundamental principles of a scientific research. Familiarity and knowledge of these research methodologies and approaches will lead to the emergence of valuable and reliable studies. The book, Research Methodology in Simple Language, is written by Maryam Sadeghi. In her book, the author endeavored to clarify the methods and principles of writing a thesis for the students of Persian Literature. The author of the current article concentrates on surveying and reviewing this book. He also points to the weak and strong points of the book in question. Based on findings of the article, despite the merits of the book such as dealing with research questions, containing specialized exercises, referring to the tables, and most importantly focusing on the field of Persian Literature, the book has many fundamental problems, including the contradiction between the title of the book and its content, the writer’s lack of attention to the basic rules of writing and editing, the presence of confusing sentences suffering from lack of enough information, and its incomprehensibility. These shortcomings will prevent its readers from not only its full understanding but also from benefitting from it.
