Born in the second Hijri century, Jahiz is one of the most brilliant thinkers of his time who has had deep ideas about translation and meaning. It can be argued that these ideas are at the same level of importance of those of modern ideas. In this article, these ideas of Jahiz are investigated, based on what he has said in his book Al-Hayavan. Therefore, after "introduction", first Jahiz and particularly his book Al-Hayavan is introduced; then his ideas about translation and meaning are analyzed. In that book, he has explained the difficulties of translation, the capabilities translators need for translation, and the severely difficult task of translating religious texts. He also believes it is imperative for translator to have the same command of the languages from which and to which he translates. For Jahiz, the knowledge a translator needs to have about the subject matter of the text in his hand must be at the same level of the knowledge the writer of the text has about it. These ideas are at the same level of clarity and exactness to the ideas provided by modern thinkers and theorists. Moreover, whatever Jahiz has said about translation, clearly indicates he has had a clear and exact understanding of meaning and the known and hidden layers of the meaning of a text.

Nicholas Luhmann's systems theory as a social theory has created a good perspective for understanding the social system and the modern world. Theory of Systems and Paradigm Shift in Sociology compiled and translated by Ali Ardestani is an important work about Luhmann. This work contains five articles by Nicholas Luhmann entitled: Changing Paradigms in Systems Theory, New Systems Theory, Society Theory, Modernity of Science, Globalization, or the Global Community: How to Understand the Global Community, Speech and Silence, and three articles by other authors entitled Why Systems, Heritage Luhmann is the foundation of the social systems. By focusing on social theory, communication theory, and evolution theory as the main elements of system theory on the one hand and placing the social system in relation to the environment of both the modern world and the world community on the other hand, the work in question has provided an acceptable explanation of systems theory. However, the work in question is not without flaws; poor coverage of topics, as well as incomprehensible translations and equations, are notable. Therefore, in the leading article, while explaining the theory of systems, which constitutes the main content of the book, it is reviewed in three parts: form, content, and translation.

Perceiving the principles of Christian arts as one of the monotheistic religions has a special significance in the studies of thought and art. In spite of the explicit prohibition of the Abrahamic religions on Image, it is important to know how icons and iconography have become essential elements of Christianity. It was expected that this book could respond part of this expectation. This article discussed some of the positive points and shortcomings of the two texts from the point of critical studies method. Thus, it was noted that the translation with manipulating the framework of the source has affected the goals of the book; meanwhile, because of the lack of proper approach, questions on “The Meaning of Icons” have been remained unresolved yet. The lack of a bibliography is a fundamental shortcoming of the Persian version, and the failure to follow the standards of research has subjected the validity and effectiveness of the book. Because of the deficiencies and mixing the content, the present translation does not seem to answer the needs of readers who have interested in this field and cannot be considered as a reliable text.

The purpose of this article is to present, review, and criticize the book “Meaning of Everyday Life” which has been written by English-born Susie Scott in 2009. A book that tries to examine and consider all aspects and dimensions in relation to the concept of "everyday life" in ten chapters. The assumption of the author is based on the fact that the study of everyday life in the field of sociological studies, which is usually engaged in answering questions and predicting macroeconomic trends in the community, has been regarded as a marginal archetype that seems to be unmistakable as if it was not necessary to study it. The author claims that recognizing macro-social structures regardless of micro levels, such as the realm of everyday life, will not be possible. As a result, it will be argued that the author could not get out of the narrow circle of social psychology and discusses the issues at sociological levels, as claimed. For this reason, the author has used superficial and non-theoretical approaches in different chapters, and it has not gone beyond the initial levels of analysis.
