The relationship between Historical Sociology (HS) and International Relations (IR) is one of the relatively new fields of study, which has attracted the attention of researchers and activists of both fields during the last few decades. In other words, the impact of the international environment on internal developments is the basis for the emergence of this field of study with general titles such as International Historical Sociology (IHS) or Historical Sociology of International Relations (HSIR) during the first years or decade of the current century. The theoretical research on the book “Global Historical Sociology” (GHS), raises the question of whether it is possible to know global historical sociology as a conjuncture point between the mentioned fields of study. The authors of the book criticized this tenet as a transdisciplinary branch that includes three areas: World Sociology, Historical Sociology, and World History. The studies carried out show that ambiguity in the possibility of methodological integration of the fields of sociology and history on the one hand and neglecting the position of the state in global transformations or its overlapping with the newly emerging field of Global Studies causes the current deficiencies in the content and methodological coherence of the book. However, the mentioned attitude can be more carefully considered and developed in the future. In this article, it will be tried to express the strengths and weaknesses of this work with a critical view.

Understanding the logic behind the success and failure in economic growth, and institutional and global arrangements is the subject of this book. Identifying growth’s binding constraints and the need for finding solutions for development issues according to the circumstances of countries is an alternative approach to this book on development. This paper aims at evaluating “One Economics, Many Recipe” in presenting an initiative for economic growth and development. Analytical-descriptive method is used in reviewing the book and conducting methodological assessment. The results indicated the advantages and challenges of the arguments put forwarded by the book. Among the advantages is the consideration of each country's circumstances in growth policy, the lack of one size fits all for economic policies for development, challenging the universalism of neoclassical teachings, the distinction between ignition of growth and its sustainability, and questioning of the exaggerating in the benefits of trade liberalization. Among the challenges are using the prescription on the title of the translated book, problems in implementing the growth diagnostic method, utilizing qualitative methods instead of quantitative in growth diagnosis in practice, neglecting policies and measures for the second stage in growth sustainability, and methodological assessment of growth diagnosis.

It is not possible to address the issue of the environment in an empty space, especially when the environmental challenges such as climate change can only be analyzed and explained on a global scale. Nowadays, the concept of globalization is very interesting for the social theorists, and over time the fundamental challenges of “question about its existence or non-existence” have steadily increased. This article will take a look at one of the most diverse ideas in this field, the concept of Ulrich Beck’s cosmopolitanism, with an emphasis on its ecological dimensions, which he considers to be a worthy alternative to the concept of globalization, and goes so far as to it re-creates a different frame of reference for contemporary sociology. The article deals with the description of Beck’s ideas on the concept of global risk society and its characteristics, the fundamental differences between globalization and cosmopolitanism, the cosmopolitanism process and the sociology of cosmopolitanism, and finally, a brief look at several critiques of his theory. Then it is focused on comparative research of the ecological dimensions of globalization in the ideas of Harvey, Giddens, Robertson and Beck. This article introduces three novel models of conflict, interwoven, and subset between environmental discourse and economic discourse.

“Nations Matter” is a passionate defense of nationalism in the age of cosmopolitanism. Craig Calhoun sees cosmopolitanism as a raw fantasy and nationalism as a realistic view. He called the formation of a world-democratic city-state a charming but unattainable ideal and claimed that now, in the first decade of the twenty-first century; the discourse of globalization is foggy more than it was in the 1990s. In this short article, fifteen critiques are presented to the author’s claim. The most important criticism is that the growth of extremist nationalism in the United States and Europe cannot be considered a defeat for the world because social change will generally take place in a sinusoidal, mixed-resistance path, and in the process of ups and downs. The rise of Trump, Brexit, and the like is part of a global resistance movement that is quite natural. The resistance will continue and may intensify, but on a larger scale, the general trend is still in favor of globalization, and nationalism is nothing but a decline.

Globalization is accompanied by the expansion of mass communication across the globe. Regarding the magnitude and type of the significant impacts left by globalization and cosmopolitan connections on cultural developments, various theories have been formed, among which the most important we can refer to the theory of cultural convergence and the theory of cultural polarization. The main issue is the relationship between cultural diversity and globalization, which Norris and Inglehart have tested in their book, Cosmopolitan Communications: Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World, through an extensive survey based on variables such as the use of the news media, cultural values, liberal views, and secularism. According to the results of this study, globalization has had a convergent aspect only in the areas close to the center of the mass communications world, while the fact is that due to the so-called firewalls, a major part of the world is not highly exposed to global mass communications. The result is that, despite the prevalence of the globalization process, the main core of national cultures still remains in the world. The present paper tries to review and examine the relationship between globalization and cultural diversity introduced in the collaborative research of Norris and Inglehart, which is translated into Persian by Abdollah Fazeli and Sajedeh Allameh and published in a book entitled “Globalization and Cultural Diversity” by Kavir Publishing. In addition to the review and analysis of the content of this work, its form and translation are also considered in this paper.

The purpose of this paper is to present a critical evaluation of The Deadly Identities, a book resulted from life experiences of the French-Lebanese author, Amin Maalouf, which has been written to explain an extremely significant issue: fascism, desire for domination, and deadly identities will be arisen if different identities are offended and threatened with annihilation. People’s identities contain several and on occasion paradoxical elements; in other words, they benefit from hybrid identity. Therefore, one special possession should not be ascribed to them; they must demand all their belongings. By hybrid identity, it means that an individual can possess two nationalities, be born from parents with two different religions, speak in some languages whilst considers all of these as his/her possessions and see him/herself as belonging to them, too. In accordance with this meaning, human being’s dignity, departed from all identical differences, should be preserved. The most noticeable critical results, related to the form of the book, include typesetting, incorrect pronunciation of English words, and grammatical errors. Ignoring agency and the process of determining identity can be considered as the most severe criticisms in relation to the content.
