This paper is a critical study of two Persian translations of Oscar Wilde’s playscript “Salomé”, which brings under study the issue of textual manipulations in translating the mentioned playscript from a textological viewpoint. It is to be said that the selection of the two translations under study, one by Abdollah Kowsari and the other by Abolhasan Tahami, has been based on the feature of the popularity of either the translator or the publisher and the choice of the typological items included in this study has been made on the basis of comparing the texts of both Persian translations with the original English version of the playscript “Salomé” published in 1894. The central question in this study addresses the ways by which the source text of the playscript has been manipulated in the two Persian translations, a question whose answer has been sought in three overall patterns of 1) elimination of certain parts of the English text in translation 2) addition of certain parts to the translated text and 3) distorting the stylistic patterns of the text, by looking into a sample of problematic items detected in the texts of both translations. Examining the samples drawn out in this study is suggestive of translational manipulation in both translated texts, and supports the finding that the effort by the two translators at rendering this literary playscript has made the Persian versions of the work undergo a range of undue distortions in the textual level as compared with the English text; what has brought about the textual transmogrification of the work in translation.

Born in the second Hijri century, Jahiz is one of the most brilliant thinkers of his time who has had deep ideas about translation and meaning. It can be argued that these ideas are at the same level of importance of those of modern ideas. In this article, these ideas of Jahiz are investigated, based on what he has said in his book Al-Hayavan. Therefore, after "introduction", first Jahiz and particularly his book Al-Hayavan is introduced; then his ideas about translation and meaning are analyzed. In that book, he has explained the difficulties of translation, the capabilities translators need for translation, and the severely difficult task of translating religious texts. He also believes it is imperative for translator to have the same command of the languages from which and to which he translates. For Jahiz, the knowledge a translator needs to have about the subject matter of the text in his hand must be at the same level of the knowledge the writer of the text has about it. These ideas are at the same level of clarity and exactness to the ideas provided by modern thinkers and theorists. Moreover, whatever Jahiz has said about translation, clearly indicates he has had a clear and exact understanding of meaning and the known and hidden layers of the meaning of a text.

After establishing Economic Division, through the Iranian Council of Change of Humanities (ICCH), MA educational plan for economics was applied in 2017. Consequently, it was introduced into relevant Iranian universities for executing from 2018. For improving the plan, a few of texts were ordered to outstanding professors to be prepared. The book Islamic Banking written by Nazarpour, M.N. et al. is among the first books published and used as a textbook, and reviewing this work can help to upgrade future quality for others. This essay examined the function of documents in qualitative, analytically descriptive methods within formal as well as content analysis. The results show that the book is edited proportionately and its formal survey is satisfied. The content analysis reveals that the mentioned book is successful to transfer a legal, logical, and a basic understanding about Islamic Banking toward any typical reader; however, the main weaknesses of the text are the limitations of closed economy as well as micro-static approach used in it.

Exploring the humanistic intellectual ideas, one should, first of all, get acquainted with the different methodological approaches, for which some authors are the exemplars in reality. This is true for explorers in the domain of political thought, especially the ones who are interested in hermeneutical methodological approaches. They would surely find Quentin Skinner’s approach towards the author-context hermeneutical methodology (applied in The Foundations of Modern Political Thought) very interesting. Due to its author’s unique methodological approach towards understanding features of political thought, the publication has been considered as one of the most influential texts in contemporary academic exploration in political thought. Indeed, the author, Quentin Skinner, not only provides valuable information about the how-ness of the development of modern political thought but also makes evaluation of his author-context hermeneutical methodology possible. Reviewing the book’s features, including the shape and content, the present study attempts to critically explore the methodological foundations and different aspects of Skinner’s author-context hermeneutics, and thus, evaluate The Foundations of Modern Political Thought.

This paper has focused on reviewing the "Modernization, Sanctions and Interpretation (from scientific knowledge to the fear of Takfir)", written by Nasr Hamed Abu Zayd, and translated by Mohsen Armin and published by Ney publisher in Iran. In this paper, we have tried to introduce the author and his intellectual concerns, the basic problems, main concepts, methodology, and data analysis. This book has four essays: 1) the necessity of religious modernization as a prerequisite of political modernization; 2)the description of the reasons of exclusive vision towards art; 3) the problem of interpretation in the old and new era, and 4) the necessity of considering the Qur'an as discourse rather than as text that is the most important part of the book. This research is the latest Abu Zayd's publication during his lifetime, trying to offer the prescription for solving the crisis in Islamic societies and reinforcing the scientific knowledge. It should be noted that in spite of the fact that the book seems invaluable, there are some methodological deficiencies. Therefore, we intend to explain the main ideas of the book and evaluate it in terms of its form and content.

The main aim of the book “Ambiguity function in the process of reading the text authored by Forough Sahba” is to examine complexities discursivities, and narrative techniques making the stories ambiguous. Although the author attempts to present a host of evidence on ambiguous-making techniques for modern stories, there still exist some criticisms on the structure and content of the book which requires its examination more closely. Disorganization and weakness in the classification of the book’s contents besides misreading of “ambiguity” are the main drawbacks of the present book. More evidently, reducing the ambiguity in stories, merely modern and postmodern ones, equaling the ambiguity with its complexities and discursivities, and also downgrading the ambiguity which are perceived as strategies for maintaining the author’s authority, are the main motives for writing this paper.

The Blind Owl of Hedayat, The Heavenly Kingdom of Bahram Sadeghi, poems of Sohrab Sepehri are Mohammad Taghi Ghiassi’s efforts to access some personal writing through an interpretation of these works which are fundamentally paradoxical. If the “second” character of interpretation writing is not in opposition to the writer’s aspiration to singularity, the dispersion of interpretation text would be a proof of the absence of the consciousness which assumes the innovatory order of speech and the original recomposition of knowledge. Ghiassi’s ego is too ingrained in his lent science to manipulate it. The elementary image of this science in the text shows the ego’s disability in appropriation and subjectivity of a reason reached by the other in a step of his transcendental suspension. Ghiassi’s interpretations search for their lever between two suspensions. His use of French theories for interpreting Iranian works is not for the purpose. The intention is to speak about somewhat physical presence of his ego in the connecting process. This presence does not unify the text; moreover, it enfeebles its consistency. There is no organic connection between the works and the theories. The unique connecting element is ego, which cries its singularity in the climax of its dependence in someone else’s speech. Belief in the superiority of the speechless ego over the silent people seems paradoxical where the learned reason of ego is inclined to vulgarity.

The present article is the result of a critical look at the book “Language, Context and Text: Aspects of Language in a Social-Semiotic Perspective” which is translated to Persian by Dr. Mojtaba Monshizadeh and Dr. Tahereh Ishani. Due to the fact that functional approach to linguistic studies in Iran has gained less attention than generative and cognitive approaches, lack of the presence of such a book in Persian, introducing functional approach to language researchers interested in this approach, was strongly felt. For this reason, translators’ attempt is admirable. One of the challenges translators has faced, has been equivalent choices for technical terms in the named approach and the absence of books in this field in Persian has resulted in the present situation which shows lack of Persian sources in functional linguistics. Other difficulties the translators faced have resulted in the emergence of cases which in their own turn require the revision of the book. Therefore, this article is the introduction of the book, its sections and chapters, as well as its strong and weak points.

Hermeneutics -the science of how to comprehend texts- is widely talked about in the West these days. It dates back to the 14th century. It is a major mental concern for a large number of scholars and philosophors. It is mostly translated into “Interpretation” or “ta'veel” in Persian. It was firstly used in the Bible by “Schleiermacher” and then spread into all other human affairs and experiences. Today, hermeneutics is largely involved in all human fields and end eavours, even in “history” which is merely concerned with the truth and falsehood of different things.
