The Prospect of Development In the Contemporary Arabic Poem

Pages 21-29

Touraj Zeinivand Zeinivand

Abstract The prospect of each literature is not separable from its present and past; because most of the time, the literature of each nation considers the period of time in the past when its development and its essence have been set. We don’t want to discuss the prospect of the contemporary Arabic poetry or that this prospect depends on its past, as a dogma in mind, nor we want to set the definite border on the basis of “only is this”, and “not except this”; because the literature of each generation considers its past generations’ literary and intellectual achievements, yet it understands itself and its times and creates new, vital, and fundamental change and transformation.

Adab al-Amsal v-al-Hekam

Pages 41-51

Vahid Sabzianpoor

Abstract This article is a review of the book Adab al-Amsal v-al-Hekam(A Collection of Proverbs and Maxims). In this book, the author has selected more than 500 verses of Arabic poems which are derived from and influenced by Imam Ali’s words; moreover, he has represented an example from Imam Ali’s words for each verse.
Among the advantages of the book, are less mistakes in spelling and providing explanations for some difficult terms at the bottom of the provided example.
Although the book has been published in Iran, written in Arabic language. If the book were in Persian and if the poets’ poems and words attributed to Imam Ali were translated in Persian, it would address a wide range of people in Iran.
Among the defects of this book are: to quote Imam Ali’s word from Sharh-e Ibn-e Abi al-Hadid and Ghorar al-Hekam rather than Nahj al-Balāgha, to quote poetry poems from secondhand sources, not selecting the better examples from Imam Ali’s words, repetition some themes, and specially the semantic irrelevance between some poems and Imam Ali’s words which have been represented as an example of impressionability from his words.

Book Review: al-Majāni men al-Nosous al Erfāniyeh (Selected Mystical Texts)

Pages 69-87

Soudabeh Mozaffari

Abstract
This book has been compiled by Dr Abbas Iqbali and Seyyed Reza MirAhmadi and published in SAMT University Press for the 2-credite course “Reading mystical texts”, the field of Arabic Language and literature, MA. In this book, at first the authors have defined some common mystical words and terms, then, have inserted some selected classic and modern mystical texts for students in order to make familiar them with these kinds of texts.
Since the authors’ aim was to write a book for the use of students in all higher education institutions, the defects of the book should have been minimal. Although the authors have used the salient mystical books, I found many mistakes in the book, both in form and content, during my teaching in the classrooms. So, I discussed them in this article with the aim to make it better for the use of students. I hope this book will be published with less mistakes in the future.

Abstract
Conversation is an important skill in learning each language which includes listening, writing, reading and speaking. The main defects of some existed conversation books are lack of audio-video instructional materials, lack of methodology, and inattention to form and structure of these kinds of books. Of course, this problem has been observed in these books; but the books which have only written form, are not successful in this area.
The present article tries to investigate Dr Mohammad Javad Sadeqi Majd’s book from the form and content point of view. The article presents the merits and defects of the book; and, at last, there are some suggestions for modifying and revising the book with aim of improving it.
