The book From Secular Science to Religious Science (Golshani, 1998/2013) is the result of an attempt to criticize the secular approach to science and call to a religious approach to science. The author has taken two steps in criticizing the secular approach. First, he argue that science needs an orientation; an orientation that stems from the scientist’s worldview. In the meantime, the author criticizes positivism and attempts to show that science has metaphysical presuppositions. Second, the author argues that science needs morality in the application of scientific findings without which it leads to destruction. Using the methods of internal and external critique, this article argues that in spite of the author’s attention to the relationship between science and metaphysics, he has not been successful in the exploration of this relationship. This is because, on the one hand, he reduces the relationship to the application of findings and the realm of ethics and, on the other hand, he regards metaphysics as something that is added to science a posteriori. The very additional and a posteriori approach urges the author to take a neutral nature for science that, in its turn, shows that he has not completely freed himself from positivism. This article suggests that a proper conception of religious science regards an integrative relationship between science and metaphysics. Contrary to Reichenback, and Stanmark following him, this relationship does not lead science to the malign relativism even though a sound degree of relativism would involve science.

Michael Sandel (2012) criticizes the neoliberal policies that were presented and implemented in many countries from 1970s in his book”What Money Can't Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets”. The writer has criticized a situation in which neoliberal policies have led to commodification and monetization of social relations. He shows how our daily and routine experiences have lost their social and collective aspects. The individuals assess and justify their incentives on the material profit (and loss) basis. This paper is structured in the framework of the formal critique and content critique. It is argued, in this paper, that there are important differences between these features which are not equal. But, the writer categorizes all of them in just one category and presents similar explanation for them. This is the most important critique to the book that describes itself as a book for ”how we live in the market-oriented capitalist world”.

One of the most important subjects for investigation in the humanities, especially in philosophy and theology, is the comparative investigation. Today in many countries, comparative philosophy is an independent discipline that has different especial methods and investigators. In the Islamic Republic of Iran, after the Islamic Revolution, many thinkers tried to conduct studies on the comparative subjects and published different books and articles about these subjects as well as the comparative philosophy itself. Dr. Mahdi Haeri Yazdi is one the contemporary Islamic thinkers that has investigated comparative philosophy by publishing different books and articles in this area. In this article, we try to re-study one of his books about comparative philosophy drawing on a critical approach. The author in his book, “HerameHasti” (Pyramid of Being)has tried to notice to some philosophical problems, comparing Islamic philosophy and Western philosophy and logic. In this article, we try to show that his book has some internal and methodical pitfalls although it has different merits for comparative investigations in philosophy, theology, and logic.

Because of its importance and effectiveness, the United States’ strategy in the Middle East has attracted regional and international actor’s attention. Challenges stemming from the US regional priorities along with differences within the US political spectrum have promoted a variety of literature. A good part of that literature has dealt with US Middle East policy critically. Among those critical sources comes Perilous Power: The Middle East and US Foreign Policy. Scientific literature critical to US Middle East policy is more common in this region itself. However, books like Perilous Power, written based on aggregating regional and western views, in addition to explaining new dimensions of the subject, provide a comparative outlook which per se could have a comparative value as well. Perilous Power is a serious effort to bring up a comprehensive critical discussion on the US Middle East policy. In this article, it has been attempted to assess and review Perilous Power both in terms of its form and content, matching its main discussion with those present in the region.

This paper examines two Persian translations of McHill’s book entitled “The Postmodernist Fiction” (1986) mostly from the dominant approach of “Translation Quality Assessment”, especially the one presented by J. House’s (1996) model. Firstly, the original book is introduced. Secondly, House’s model is reviewed, upon which a new, constructed model is introduced for assessing both the original and translated texts. Thirdly, the selected parts of the original book in comparison with its two Persian translations at lexical, syntactic, and semantic levels are studied and analyzed. Finally, it is concluded that one of the Persian translations of McHill’s book has not been truly successful due to some misunderstanding in the process of translation.

One of the most important components of implementing resistive economy is to pay special attention to the production of primary commodities and fundamental products based on knowledge-based economy. In order to realize the resistive economy policies in Iran, there is a need to move from low-tech level to high- tech level productions. Business development in the sophisticated exports requires the development of technical and institutional capabilities. Hence, the present study aims to investigate and introduce the mechanisms of production of complex and sophisticated commodities in Iran according to the capability approach. After reviewing the research literature, using the complexity atlas, proposed by Hausmann and Hidalgo (2013), Iran’s position in world complex products has been analyzed. Results show that Iran has not been successful in producing complex commodities. Iran’s production and exports are often related to simple commodities, and like many other developing countries, Iran has suffered from acquiescence trap. Finally, policy suggestions have been made to improve the level of product complexity.

Before announcing such a decision, members of the Review Committee put the books of a PhD holder, Dr. Mohammadtaghi Ghiasi on their agenda. There were two main factors involved in this decision. First, unlike many other academic productions in various French-language minors, Dr. Ghiasi's works could manage to spring from the university and reach a wide range of public readers. Second, this translator and researcher's fields of work were quite diverse, allowing our colleagues to study part of his work according to their professional orientation to make proper judgment about his works.

The volume of essays by Norberto Cacciaglia is particularly interesting for how author manages to invite the reader's attention to the new historical details of Manzoni’s masterpiece I PromessiSposi, highlighting unusual insights not always easily traceable if not through a new point of view. The work of Cacciaglia is different because of how he emphasizes the value of working and the law of the economy in the PromessiSposi’s historical society.

This article is a review of the book An Introduction to Atonal Music Analysis by Amin Honarmand, published by University of Tehran in 2014. This book consists of four main chapters. It begins by general issues on the analysis of atonal music in chapters one to three and focuses on structure of dodecaphonic music in the last chapter. Even though the roots of atonal music are not in Iran, one may doubt why the author has chosen to write a book in this issue rather than translating readily available books written by Western scholars to Persian. It seems that the main reason for choosing to write a new text rather than translating is the need of Persian students for a simplified source in this issue. The review of this book showed that Honarmand has been somehow successful and the output is clear enough for students who need basic knowledge of music analysis of atonal music. The review of this book also revealed that one may not find all aspects of atonal music in this book, and it still needs further resources to make a complete analysis of atonal music, particularly in aspects of harmony and orchestration. However, the book perfectly disuses pitch classes and pitch collection issues and to a good extent dodecaphonic music analysis. Before reading this book, the reader needs good knowledge of tonal music and related issues of that kind of music in order to make a better sense of absence of tonality in configuration of atonal music.

One of the most important relationship bridges among languages, cultures, and literature of various countries is the translation. This study, investigating the relationship between substation and companionship that a famous linguist Saussurehas talked about, investigated the present translation. The present study has engaged in problems from the view of descriptive-interpretive method, by emphasizing the product-oriented (descriptive) translation studies. He has analyzed them, has presented the suggested translation. In general, it can be said that in spite of the efforts and a lot of translating problems in transferring contents from the source language into the target language, the translation of the mentioned book has confronted many difficulties that can be resulted from the loss of exact understanding or enough accuracy between the source language and the target language, and idioms have beneficial usages in the area of words and idioms in these languages.

The theory of conventions is the basis of Islamic humanities, if it is viewed from a philosophical and holistic perspective and taken as part of existential discussions. In reality, humans are genuine and real beings that express their needs in this world through the language of conventions. Therefore, conventions are intertwined with anthropology and epistemology and act as the pillars of Islamic humanities. Propositions in the humanities including propositions in jurisdiction and law are conventions and do not necessitate proofs. What is important in these sciences is to attract benefits and dispose loss and gain perfection and prosperity, and in Islamic humanities the aim is to reach closeness to Allah. But, those who take jurisprudence and legal propositions as genuine have mixed genesis and decree since genuine relationships exist in areas where there is a relationship between cause and effect. In jurisprudence and legal issues, a law is validated through a judge and has no genesis, and religious or customary laws are taken from the validity of the judge or a legislator.

Frequency and continuity of military interventions in politics in different societies have led to the fact that the analysis of the interrelationships of the armed forces and the government has become one of the most important issues in political sociology studies. Military interference in politics in different forms and levels is a general phenomenon that exists in almost all countries of the world. This phenomenon in its most gentle and most extensive levels is seen in the forms of exerting influence over politicians and on the process of political decision-making and policy- making, and at the highest levels, it occurs in the form of overt political interference and resort to military coups and obvious presence at the head of political power. This article reviews the book "The Military and Politics", as one of the newest works presented in Persian, in the field of mutual relations and interactions of the military institution and the government, and it tries to review the book using a critical analysis, and considering various aspects of this topic.

Place and role of God in Hegel’s philosophy have become one of the most controversial problems in philosophy and interpretation for the past two centuries. The main distinction between the two Hegelian movements (the left and the right wings) depends on how we answer this issue. Contrary to the development of modern philosophy which has gradually diminished the place and role of God in the explanation of the world, Hegel brought this concept into the center of philosophy once again; he revived the arguments, and put it on the throne, although with a new name: Absolute Spirit. At the moment the most important question is the relationship between Hegelian Absolute Spirit and Christian God. Did Hegel make philosophy theological or theology philosophical? Did Hegel bring God into its high place or did he negate the common-theological concept of God?In Hegel’s Concept of God, Quentin Lauer attempts to deal with these questions. Although the reader cannot derive explicit answers for these questions, he or she can understand the approach of the writer about Hegelian analysis of the concept of God, and consequently grasp a brief impression of Hegelian metaphysics.

To this end, a researcher-made questionnaire was developed and pilot tested. Bartlett's test of Sphericity, Keiser-Meyer-Olkin sampling adequacy measure, exploratory factor analysis and factor loadings, and Cronbach's Alpha measure of internal consistency were all run on the pilot study data, and the results verified acceptable levels of validity and reliability for the questionnaire. The validated questionnaire was given to 188 high school English teachers chosen based on convenience sampling procedure from seven provinces of the country. Moreover, 146 teachers sat for a semi-structured interview. The questionnaire and interview data analyses results revealed that the participating teachers were not satisfied with several aspects of the text including layout and design, the exercises and activities, the integration of the four skills, teachers book, grammar, vocabulary, language functions, and the proposed teaching methodology of the text.

This article examines the economic conditions of publishing books in Iran. The book as one of the most important cultural goods in comparison with other cultural industries has a fairly good capacity to generate income and employment. In this research, firstly, using the value chain approach, the economic conditions of the book publishing are explained. Then, using the grounded method and utilizing economic indicators, the challenges of this area have been identified. According to the studies and surveys conducted in this study, real household expenditures on books have been decreasing since 2013. Examples include imbalances in the share of publishing chain actors, the inadequate distribution of distributors across the country, the inappropriateness of the number of bookstores with the number of publishers, the weakness of reading culture and the educational system, and the domination of the new media on people's lives are considered to be challenging. In contrast, effective policy-making with the use of economic indicators and actions such as updating the rules in this area and the use of innovations such as printing on demand, online sales, and audiobooks in many ways can help to cope with the challenges.

Islamic Society in the 3rd and 4th Hijri centuries is important due to the dominance of the Buyid dynasty, Iranian and Shiite rulers in the Sunni Abbasid caliphate system, so this matter has received the consideration of Iranian scholars, Orientalists, and Islamologists. The research and compilation about this period of history requires the accurate recognition of the Islamic society, Iranian society as well as the views of Sunnis and Shiites. For this reason, the Mottahedeh’s book, which takes approaches about the two components of loyalty and leadership, emphasizing the Buyid, deserves translation and critique. The present critique pertains to the content of the book in the original language. Since the translation of the book is important in the proper transmission of the concepts of history, culture, and the correction of the deficiencies in the original text, it evaluates two existing translations of the book by matching them with the original text as well as adapting the two translation texts. Result shows that lack of proper understanding about the Islamic society, the Iranian customs and culture, and the Buyid encountered problems in the text, despite the innovation and creativity in choosing social discussions. Although the translators of the first translation have not provided enough explanations to address the deficiencies of the content of the book, due to their consistency with the scientific expertise of the author, they have been able to provide more a reliable translation.

Of the book advantages are the study of social inequalities dimensions including such subjects as women and social stratum, religions and social stratum, ethnics and social inequalities, policy and social stratum as well as two chapters which deal with the case study of middle class in Iran and the USA. The formal generality factors have not been regarded as an educational book in university. The formal and content evaluation show that this book does not meet the needs of a scientific society in sociology of stratum and social inequalities field despite of the third edition because the book is not problem-oriented; it has no theoretical presupposition and methodology, and its content has not been arranged around a main question, and if the book is subject–oriented, it is not an educational and scientific book, so it looks more like a collection of articles.

C., who called the expression style of Heraclitus enigmatique. The name of the style, then, was given to the author, himself. At last, Heraclitus was known as the Obscure Philosopher. So, the title of the book has had an ancient history. Regarding the Pre-Socratics, we do not have any sources available except the Early Greek Philosophy by Sharaf (Sharafeddin Khorasani), and the Cosmology of Heraclitus of Ephesus: Texts and Some Remaining Translations by Mehdi Kohandani. Therefore, the Obscure Philosopher is appreciated. The book is written by Dariyush Darvishi Published by Nashre Porsesh in 2012. It is a research on the ideas of the Heraclitus, the pre-Socratic philosopher, and it is a translation of his words into Persian. Here, we consider the discussions of the book, and only we point out to some notes on the ideologies of Heraclitus and the author’s review on them. It is concluded that this book has a duplicate advantage for the Persian readers; first, it is the compilation of the present popular translations such as the Persian translations from the Heraclitus words with their Greek original texts; second, it is the studying of the fundamental bases of his ideas.

Recently, postmodern theories are the main theoretical framework for many published studies in postmodern theories, whatever the reason is for considering these theories. The application of this theory is usually done in two forms. A) Through presenting a simplistic reading of postmodernism (in this case, the differences between the postmodern theories are being ignored), its main components such as uncertainty, etc., are also extracted, and then the text is analyzed in terms of the components. B) Only such postmodern theories as Derrida's (de) construction are the building block for the text analysis. Despite a lot of studies, it seems that the application of postmodern theory did not play any significant role in enhancing our knowledge. Although there are several reasons for this failure, one of the main reasons to such demerits is the simplistic reading and reductive application of postmodern theory. The present article seeks to investigate one of the most important elements, namely short story based on postmodern theory. Furthermore, it specifically aims to address the short story in Iran as framed in postmodern stories (with emphasis on chapter 9, the Postmodernism characterizing based on Foucault's theory) to disclose the outcomes and the reasons why reductionism and simplistic reading occurs in such works.

For many years, scholars such as theologists, linguists, and archaeologists have been studying Zoroastrian religion from the beginning. These studies provide us with valuable knowledge of this religion and its believers. However, there are still scholars who are trying to clarify the occasional, not very clear, cornerstones of this religion in different periods. Scholars spoke only on the basis of historical texts as well as the Zoroastrian religious texts not so long ago, so archaeological excavations and research have now come to help the scholars to shed light on this religion over time. One of the most important books in this regard that uses historical and religious texts and archaeological findings is Zoroastrianism: An Introduction written by Jenny Rose.
