Argument to Islamic Art is one of the controversial topics in Archaeology and art of Islamic world. Many scholars have written professional articles and books about the origin, function, cognition of art in the Islamic Period. Whatever has caused the definition differences in Islamic art due to different theoretical frameworks and various approaches have been studied so far. These theoretical approaches have been important to coherent presentation of artistic phenomena in the Islamic world. The present book is included as a source book of Islamic art cognition that it has been written based on the Historicism approach. The book has tried to show the important events from the socio-political and cultural evolutions in the Islamic world according to evidence of urban-planning, art, and architecture. The investigation of this book shows that the author has presented general landscape evolutions according to local scale despite the expansion of Islamic governments in political authority. Serious critiques include generalization and descriptive presentation of various events in Islamic world, lack of the determined approach in analyzing the artistic phenomenon, over-focusing on the socio-economic impacts on the production of objects. Finally, this factor has caused that other factors to be ignored.

The book of the Theatre in Safavid Period by Yaghoob Azhand is a work that historically mentions the theatrical performances common in the Safavid period and the origins and backgrounds of these practices, and is therefore of particular interest to historians. In this article, first, by briefly comparing this work with some other works published in the field of history of theater in Iran, we outline its place among these exegetical works and its distinguished aspects. In the following, while reviewing the method of segmenting the method of presenting this historiography and comparing it with the conventional methods of theater historiography, we have criticized this work as a work in the field of Iranian theater history. In the same way, using the theory of performance, some of the species mentioned in this work have been examined as executive types, and their strengths and weaknesses have been expressed. Finally, by examining the general approach of the work in relation to the historiography of the play, the work’s status is evaluated as an academic work.

The book Understand Film Studies aims to equip its reader with necessary concepts for film critique; in this regard, the author describes the definitions of aesthetic and film structure, film genres and documentary, and by giving examples and expressing the basic concepts of each one, it aims to clarify the topics. The author presents 10 different approaches for cinematic studies, and then pays attention to different techniques to create the images. The author also indicates the distinction between realist and formalist theoreticians and argues that both approaches are useful. However, the 10 approaches mentioned in the book do not have enough precision and comprehensiveness for film analysis. The emphasis on Hollywood films and special privileges for the director as auteur, despite the subsequent text-based analysis, reduces the updated content of the book.

This article is an attempt to criticize “How Can Art Change Your Life” by Alain de Botton and John Armstrong. The foundations of this book rely on Dewey’s emphasis on restoring the link between the experience of aesthetics and ordinary life. According to Dewey’s pragmatic thought, if we put art away and then glorified it, or if we were only engaged in the task of choosing the great works of art, and merely reviewing them, we would have to understand the “role of art”. In civilization, we will be weakened. The authors of the book try to descend from the level of the description of art in a situation far from the experience of human life and formulate it in a practical and practical structure. By explaining the problems of the audience in dealing with art, they explain that art as a tool will be able to act as an effective tool against many of the hardships of the contemporary era, both in the private sphere and at the general level.

It is difficult to speak and theoretically analyze the handicrafts, although it may sound easy. Crafts are a familiar and tangible thing in everyday life, so it would be obvious without any need to know and try to understand them. The book “Introduction to Iranian Crafts Workshops” was compiled by Fariba Mostafavi in Mehr Nowruz Publications in 2016. Although the book is generally a collection of invaluable high-quality illustrations to introduce to some handicraft workshops, like any scholarly work, it has some formative and content deficiencies that have been attempted to criticize it critically. This research has explained the relevance of the library to some non-scientific propositions that mislead the reader (artists) and move from one research to another. In this regard, the following shortcomings and critical comments will be expressed in each of the following issues.

In this paper, the book of the genre of film, from the classical to the post-classic, has been attempted from different aspects, including the general introduction of the book and the author, the external analysis, the internal analysis and position of the book, the study of its advantages and its shortcomings. The lack of genre generation and diversity in Iranian’s films and the need for more knowledge in the field of genre studies have necessitated the publication of more books in this area. For this reason, the author’s and publisher’s efforts to convey an analytical work that examines the process of transforming the Hollywood genre from classical to post-classic and describes the genres of the film in various historical, cultural, political, and industrial fields are commendable. In this text, the author has attempted to highlight some of the main issues of the genre theory in relation to the book and a brief description of the types of published books in the genre, to show disadvantages of the form, translation, and editing of the book, to identify issues that need to be reformed.

Roger Cook, the author of this book, has been well versed in collecting a coherent set of artwork related to the ancient pattern of the tree of life, and this is a very important and sensible issue. In fact, the significance of the issue is the effect of an archetype in a common visual culture among all peoples and nations. The archetype of the tree of life, described in the religious literature, has been specially imparted in the minds and works of the arts of various artists from the classical and romantic style to the postmodern. It is interesting to conceive of a metaphysical and mystical idea by artists of nations, styles, and times. Here are some questions: 1- What is the relation between the tree in mystical thoughts and the tree in myth? 2- What steps has the tree symbol undergone in transforming from myth to art? This article is composed of library and documentary studies in a comparative study of religious literature and artwork of various nations and thus enters the analysis and description of the tree of life.

The purpose of this article is to criticize Margin Call’s film content and evaluate screenplay sequences, actors’ dialogues, organizational behavior, and other management topics based on the right and ethical decision making of managers in critical situations. The descriptive-analytic research method is a kind of content that has been criticized for the reaction of people in critical situations to organizational problems, and in this regard, the strengths and weaknesses of the film have been reviewed and criticized. One of the most important strengths is a strong screenplay, in which almost all management issues are included in times of crisis. The director has displayed all the dialogues in a very simple and fluid manner based on economic terms. It is also possible to point out the crisis formation in the organization and the reversal process of directors’ decisions away from addiction. In the end, after displaying individual conflicts among individuals, holding numerous meetings, reviewing all the opinions, decisions, and competitive strategies as well as the organization’s survival, it has been shown people’s reaction in times of crisis, and Decision making as well. In addition, the lack of innovation in organizational decisions when overcoming the difficulties and all decisions made by executives showed the primacy of organizational and individual interests over the interests of other stakeholders, which were its weaknesses. Ultimately, this film is recommended for Business Professional Ethics Training to Students in this field.

This essay is trying to analyze and review the book, according to determined measures. This book has valuable, comprehensive, and new information about contemporary photography theories. Authors in every section focused on the special subject. The book includes seven main sections and a thorough appendix. Reviewing this book indicates that the book has been successful in paying close attention to recent discussions in photography theories. Giving references to credible references adds to the richness and validity of the book. Most sections are very useful for teaching courses of photography theory in university. Moreover, the translation of this book to Persian language is reliable. Every section of the book does not depend on another section, so every section can be regarded as a book. The book “Form and Creation in Iranian Music” has been written and edited based on one of the academic courses of Iranian music, and at least because of the lack of references in this field, this book is considered as a reference and rich source. Its critique has been done with the aim of developing the domains of study in this field. The source of the major theoretical backgrounds of the book is the personal experiences and ideas of the author, as a well-known figure in this field. Using numerous and various examples related to the titles and issues, as well as the content of the last chapter about the genres in Iranian music, can be considered as the highlights. The incoherence of the contents in certain titles, not presenting enough explanations of some expressions, and ambiguity when using certain specialized vocabulary can be counted as weaknesses of the work.

Today, the debate on women-related issues has come to prominence as an international discourse. Discussing women’s issues as a large demographic group of the society can be conducive to promoting various social, cultural, economic, and political dimensions. Given the scant attention paid to the instrumental role of women in various aspects of social, family, economic, political, cultural, and artistic activities, the gap of such studies is particularly felt in countries such as Iran. In recent years, Iranian women have been struggling to achieve their proper status. The great potentials of women in diverse cultural and artistic fields of activities are not unknown to anyone. The book, “Female Calligraphists of Iran” by Tahereh Molamohammadi, is one of the first works attempting to recognize Iranian women and cultivate their potentials. The introduction of the character and works of the female calligraphists in the history of Islamic era in Iran is the major contribution of this seminal book. .The book “Music in Turkey: Experiencing Music, Expressing Culture”, published in 2018, contains general information on the current life and culture of Turkish music with a focus on Istanbul. This book provides details on musical geography, music history, instruments, theoretical concepts of music, and twentieth-century musical developments, along with a chapter on the music recording and publishing industry. The author of the book in question has been able to express some of the most current topics in Turkish music culture in the book; he has covered almost all existing styles and related executive, educational, and publishing areas. As a result, the book is comprehensive, semi-specialized, and useful for anyone interested in the subject, especially for ethnomusicology students, providing an overview of contemporary Turkish music culture. After reading the book, problems with translation, including issues related to the correct pronunciation of Turkish idioms, correct spelling, and nouns in Persian, as well as the technical and musical issues, were noted in the text in detail.

Creativity is the most basic ability of the human brain. The artist with visual communication always tries to create great ideas with new ideas. Bruno Monari is an artist and creative innovator. In 1967, Monari initiated innovative experiences and training of interested students at Harvard University and included their experiences, successes, and failures in a book entitled “Visual Design and Communications: Contribution to a teaching methodology”. This article introduces and critically examines the book of Bruno Munari, which was translated by Paiandeh Shahandeh in 2008. The purpose of this article is to express the points to be considered in order to make the work more effective and to introduce more and more of the author’s approach to planning for a complete teaching of visual communication at universities and colleges in the country. The research methodology is descriptive-analytical with a critical approach, and the tools for collecting library data, articles, and Internet resources are valid. The book can be enriched by providing more creative images and pictures, giving them the right logical consistency, and deleting and adding parts of the content to its beneficial coefficient for all those related to visual arts.

The present article is a critique of the book “Image and Word: Approaches to Iconology”. The importance of introducing and reviewing this work is studying Erwin Panovsky’s views on image, iconography, and iconology, as well as the presentation of relevant approaches in this field from the perspective of theorists such as Aby Warburg, Hans Belting, Mieke Bal, and Georges Didi-Huberman. This makes it possible to analyze and compare the approaches in parallel and in opposition to each other. Therefore, the usage of this book is for those who want to become familiar with iconology as a theoretical framework and a kind of methodology. As for knowing and understanding the agreeing and disagreeing views, it will be suitable. In this article, in order to describe the content and concepts embodied in the book, it is separately addressed to each of the chapters; In addition, while describing the material, they refer to the similarities and differences between the views of these theorists, as well as to the subject matter under consideration by the author, mentioning the related items. The article addresses the book of Image and Mind: Film, Philosophy, and Cognitive Sciences compilation by Gregory Currie. The cognitive approach is one of the relatively recent perspectives on narratological and cinematic studies that emerged from the 1980s and sought to examine the mental processes of the audience through objective exploration in the perceptual and cognitive mechanism of mankind. There are few sources in the Persian language in two areas of narratology and cognitive sciences, and existing books on cinematic studies, such as compilation and translation to the cognitive attitude, are scarce, so the translation and publication of such resources is really useful. In this article, after introducing the exterior origin of the book and the brief description of its content, by examining the form and content of the book, while listing the points from the methodology of the author, some of the conclusions and content lines of the book are critically evaluated. Particularly, at the time of printing the original version and translating it into Persian, there have been many changes in the field of cinematic technologies that could revise some of the ideas in the book.

The aim of this article is to critically review the content and form of a book on Islamic Art (collection of essays and lectures). This book is one of the basic books on Islamic art discourse with different approaches. The authors of this book have sought to study the nature of Islamic art, through theoretical discussions in the context of historiographical, jurisprudential, mystical, sociological, semiotic, and hermeneutic attitudes. The main issue of this paper is to raise the fundamental question of how mystical and judgmental approaches to traditionalist discourse as well as historical approaches to descriptive discourse can analyze and interpret Islamic art and thus open the door to understanding and understanding the complexities of Islamic art discourse. We reveal the formation. The importance and critical importance of a critical look at Islamic art textbooks for a more detailed analysis as well as explaining the mechanisms and characteristics of the various approaches to Islamic art discourse analysis seem significant. The Ernest Cassirer Symbolist Philosophy was one of the most important systematic philosophical thoughts of the twentieth century, which did not spread as many times as it deserved and was not introduced in principle. One of these reasons was the lack of author’s conclusive work on his philosophy. But at the end of his life, he wrote a book for English speakers, which is an entry into this thinking. The book, An Essay on Man, was translated from French translation to Persian. This book was important because of an independent chapter on art which the philosopher did not have time to review. The present article intends to correct the mistakes by reviewing the Persian text with the English text of the chapter and provide a small field for understanding this valuable and succinct chapter. So, there is no intention of criticizing the translator and only to facilitate the understanding of the topic for the Persian speaker.

This paper has attempted to reread the book The Music of Northern India from the collections of the musical experiments as a symbol of culture collection, and the aim of this research is to criticize the mentioned book considering the musical-technical dual discussions and the musical-social issues. Regarding that, this paper mentions the details for discovering the totals, the executive logic behind the paper is comparative, and its aims are analytical, descriptive, and comparative. Analyzing the technical-musical data of the mentioned book is in line with comparing some concepts of Iranian classical music. The role of the non-words and improvising elements in the creation of Indian classical music is the main issue of the criticism. The role of music in the mental life of India, social changes and, of course its influences on Indian music is another issue for discussion in this paper. Considering the text of the book and analyzing the text, we can understand that globalization not only has influenced the social life of the Indian music but also has been influential on musical sound and inter-social relations. It seems that the sound content of the Ragas in Indian music lacks any clear definition, and we face a series of definitions that reading and mental record of the musician, in line with performance atmosphere, have played an important role in the formation of the music. Tala, which is related to the musical timing of Indian music, is like a chain whose rings are formed by the verbal syllables and the art of the melodic instrument players, percussions, and the dancers relate them to each other.

Perceiving the principles of Christian arts as one of the monotheistic religions has a special significance in the studies of thought and art. In spite of the explicit prohibition of the Abrahamic religions on Image, it is important to know how icons and iconography have become essential elements of Christianity. It was expected that this book could respond part of this expectation. This article discussed some of the positive points and shortcomings of the two texts from the point of critical studies method. Thus, it was noted that the translation with manipulating the framework of the source has affected the goals of the book; meanwhile, because of the lack of proper approach, questions on “The Meaning of Icons” have been remained unresolved yet. The lack of a bibliography is a fundamental shortcoming of the Persian version, and the failure to follow the standards of research has subjected the validity and effectiveness of the book. Because of the deficiencies and mixing the content, the present translation does not seem to answer the needs of readers who have interested in this field and cannot be considered as a reliable text.

Due to the vastness of the country, the large population and different tribes, access to the oceans, access to the natural resources of fiber and dyes, and ethnic beliefs have led to the variety of textiles. Variety in all types of women's and men's clothing, design, and dyeing methods or embroidery has created a wide variety of traditional textiles. Learning the traditional Indian textiles, due to their variety and breadth, provides us with a lot of valuable information. The traditional Indian textile book has been written to introduce India's textile history to the learners. Due to the lack of Persian sources of traditional world textiles, this book has become a successful source. The content of the book was criticized in different ways. The evaluation results show that the book is precise and the content is relevant to the learner’s needs. With respect to the rational order and greater coherence in the content of the text, the proper use of the images or the avoidance of a slight predisposition to the impact of Indian textiles of the Iranian type, the authenticity of the work can be promoted.

Theoretical studies in Islamic Arts have a long history and in recent decades different studies have been conducted. More than everyone, orientalists conducted detailed studies in this field resulting in numerous books of Islamic Arts. Some of these books are scientific and documentary, but some others have deficiencies that researchers of Islamic Arts must evaluate them in their reviews. Afif Al-bahanssi’s “Islamic Art” is from the few books in this field from an Arab author. In this book, Afif Al-bahnassi has focused on Arabic art and Arab lands, articulating his biased ideas without historical and scientific documents. He insists on the independence of Islamic art, especially Arab lands, and ignores the effects of Sassanid art and Iranian art on the Islamic art. This essay has attempted to analyze and interpret the form and content determined by the structure of the book “Acting the Part: Photography as Theatre,” (translated to Farsi in 2014). It is a descriptive-analytic study and by referring to four chapters of the book, it tries to deal with origin, effectiveness, benefits, and shortcomings of the book. In the course of analysis and research, it is revealed that the book was published on the occasion of a photo exhibition in Canada, and each of the four chapters of the book has a specific aspect to theatrical photography. Few occasions such as the triple roles of actor, narrator, and artist for the sake of the photographer, the photographer as a storyteller, the explanation of live photography and examples of well-known photos in social documentary scope can be considered as book’s innovations. However, aggregation of diverse opinions expressed in the mold of a book is not homogeneous, and it ends without any final conclusion. The book acts successfully in case-thematic study for stylistic and historical aspects of theatrical photography (Staged Photography), but cannot entirely represent all historical and stylistic aspects of this field of photography. Translation, editing, printing quality, and layout of the book are desirable. In the absence of adequate resources in Farsi, this book is useful for enthusiasts and students of photography.

The Basics of Melody Creation in Composition was published by Markaz publication in 2016. The author of the book attempts to address the subjects of melody in 8 separate chapters. The text is smooth and easy to understand and the book cover design is adorned and unobtrusive. The author's musicologists' approach to address the subject, the use of multiple and varied sources, the multiplicity of text-related examples and illustrations, and the abstract and conclusion presentation at the end of each topic were among the most important features of this book. Considering the topics discussed in the chapters and the educational and analytical process presented, a suitable title was not selected for the book. Also, in general, the first, third, and sixth chapters of the book, the main content of which are more coherently raised in other books, cannot be considered a point in this book. In contrast, the perspective raised by the author in Chapters 2 and 8 is a special and useful discussion about the melody that has not been addressed in other Persian-language books.
