Understanding is about the subject and action, and social understanding is a sociological look at the object of observation that occurs in order to receive social inference. Throughout history, this understanding has shaped custom due to its alignment with social norms. Religious custom originates from religious norms and religious texts and creates a different way of life. In this regard, books have been written at different times, whose purpose is to respond to social needs in maintaining and expanding social norms. The purpose of examining two books (Heliyat al-Mutaqeen and Mafatih al-Hayaht) is the impact of environmental roles on the authors and the study of the social understanding of the Shiite religious custom. The trend of Shia religious customs can generally be divided into two main parts: social (Islamic civilization) and individual (monotheistic man). The research method is a comparative method that increases awareness, avoids misinformation, and teaches lessons.

Discussing the national identity of Iranians, drawing its image, and criticizing its foundations have been among the controversial academic topics in recent decades. This controversial dialogue, especially in the shadow of the emergence of the theories called postmodernism, has opened new points of view in historiography and has prompted some people to critically look at the conventional narratives of Iranian history through the lens of these new perspectives and reveal their weaknesses. In this article, we have chosen one of the most referenced works of this kind of research; That is, “Vernacular Modernity and the Rethinking of History” written by Mohammad Tavakoli Targhi. We have shown that this compilation, despite relying on first-hand sources and their innovative reading, has theoretical and methodological flaws. To describe the shortcomings in independent chapters, we have criticized the form, theoretical foundations, and methodology of the work and tried to show to what extent these weaknesses affect the acceptance of the research results. Based on this study, it seems that the main shortcoming in the theoretical plan of the book is that it has not given a clear definition of tradition. Such ambiguity in the definition of tradition has influenced various aspects and has made it difficult to accept its arguments.

The book Historical Geography of the Persian Gulf by Pirooz Mojtahedzade was first published by University of Tehran Press in 1975. In 2013, the author made a new edition with “broad changes and additions” in the same publishing house. In this new edition, while surveying the historical geography of the Persian Gulf from ancient times until the contemporary period, the author has discussed about history and historical geography of the offshore territories of this sea. The current paper aims to have a critical review of the content and the form of this new edition. The outcome of this critical review shows that due to many problems such as the absence of a unique referring method, presenting false، sometimes fake and paradoxical contents, the ambiguity of the main subject, lack of proper sources, vast grammatical and typographic mistakes, incoherence and entanglement of contents, the disproportion of the main title with contents, conspiracy theory, anachronism and finally the lack of bibliography, index, and conclusion, this book is disqualified to be published by such a respected publisher.

“Ecological University: A Feasible Utopia” is a translation of a book by Ronald Barnett, a famous English university philosopher, published in 2018. This book proposes a new idea for future universities based on the method of critical realism on Bhaskar and Habermas's communicative action. Based on critical realism, he has considered several ontological layers for the seven ecosystems in which we humans and societies live and feel their presence in our lives. In his opinion, the university can communicate with the existential layers of all seven ecosystems based on the epistemological diversity within itself and based on the academic principles that make it superior to these seven ecosystems, and establish a homogeneous relationship between them in continuous back-and-forth between them, a relationship that is heterogeneous in the current situation, and this heterogeneity endangers the life of the planet and our ecosystem he has thrown it away. This paper tries to critique and examine the Persian translation of this book in terms of content, methodology, appearance, and the sources used.

In this article, I aimed to give a critical position about a book, namely "Statistics in Scientometrics and Knowledge and Information Science" that was published by SAMT Organization using the polemical criticism method. A critical study of the book showed that it has been unsuccessful in achieving its beginning claims about uncomplicated explanation and practical utilization and a typical reader of the book in humanities and behavioral science can't understand some of its basic statistical discussions and it is usable only for statistical instructors and they may able to re-explain its proofs about distributions, propositions, estimations and so on. It should be said that it is not a comprehensive book in statistics because non-parametric tests and some advanced tests such as ANCOVA, MANCOVA, and path analysis have been neglected. Its software instruction section is either a flawed section because of its excessive brief. However, the book’s basic plan is defensible and its authors can develop it by increasing the statistical tests and decreasing peripheral argumentation.

The main purpose of this article was to critically investigate the book "Holy Ignorance: When Religion and Culture Part Ways” written by Olivier Roy. Specifically, this research tried to examine the conflict or coexistence of religion and culture through the analyses of the author of the book, and discover the impact of ideological positions on the text. To this end, using the critical discourse analysis method by Fairclough (1989), this research analyzed and criticized the content of this book within three stages of description, interpretation and explanation. The findings showed that the key idea of this work is to introduce religious fundamentalism in the world as a result of the disconnection of the links between cultural and religious signs. However, the book goes wrong in identifying and explaining the relationship between religion and culture and has proposed the convergence of these two based on evidences which are on the contrary, at least in the case of Islam. Moreover, the author's interpretation of Islamic fundamentalism is vague and insufficient and implies a false justification of the political identity of Islam in the contemporary era.

Critically dealing with the topic of "Iranian Ethos", in the form of stories, travelogues, etc. has always been one of the most popular and controversial topics. In the meantime, the book "Iranian Compatibility" written by Mehdi Bazargan is of particular importance for being in the middle of the works of the Qajar period (typically a travel book), with a significant number of generally sociological texts of recent years. He has The innovative approach of the book and its impact on the critical reading and self-examination of Iranians is one of the prominent and questionable points of the book, which is important in comparison with similar texts before and after it and in comparison with different periods of thought of the merchant himself. The central question of the article is whether the book "Iranian Compatibility" (which deals with the difficulty and controversial nature of Iranians) is capable of being proposed as an innovative theory in response to a real social crisis. In order to find the answer to this question, the author-centered (intentionalist) interpretation method of "Quentin Skinner" and the theoretical framework of "Thomas Spriggans" will be used so that the central goal of the research (that is, to understand the level of initiation and the place of thinking of the merchants, in relation to the anthropological style of Iranians) can be revealed as well as possible. The findings and results of this research show that Bazargan's idea in summarizing the Iranian spirit and temperament, despite all the criticisms on it, was still the source of inspiration or in line with the scientific action of other theoreticians.

The present study was conducted with the aim of critically analyzing and comparing the views of Paynar and Eisner in the field of curriculum. To achieve this goal, comparative research method has been used. The field of research included all the sources, including the books of these scientists, articles, studies and research related to the subject. The research sample was selected purposefully so that sources with relevant and first-hand materials are selected. The desired data was collected through a note-taking list and the information was analyzed verbally, graphically and logically. Based on the findings of the research, Paynar considers the curriculum as a cultural and political structure and has paid attention to concepts such as phenomenology, neo-conceptualism and internationalization of curricula, and Eisner has paid attention to aesthetics, artistic education and the view of plurality and to the orientation in the development of curricula, with a critical and comparative look at the macro views of these two scientists in the field of curriculum. It can be concluded that the common point of view of these two scientists is to pay attention to the real world in designing curricula, but their distinction is Paynar's attention to theorizing in the field of curriculum with respect to the real world, and Eisner pays attention to the artistic and aesthetic point of view in curriculum design.
