Selecting the book tailored for criticism and theory lessons is a challenge for the professors, affecting class success and students' sense of satisfaction. This course is offered to students in different academic disciplines in Iran, and therefore, a proper book to teach this course is needed in the academic publication market in Iran. In this market, there are numerous books, most of which are translations of English-language texts. Since the course Criticism and Theory are among the most difficult lessons for students, selecting the right book can reduce the burden on the students and professors. In the present article, the author compares the Rutledge's Literary Criticism and Cultural Theory Handbook edited by Simon Malpas and Paul Vick with some examples of English criticism in English language and literature to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of this book, and evaluate in terms of educational value. It also presents suggestions for making it applicable in the classroom. Eventually, the author believes that the Rutledge's Literary Criticism and Cultural Theory Handbook is a considerable book for teaching the course Criticism and Theory, and a proper translation can meet the needs of other disciplines.

The Basics of Melody Creation in Composition was published by Markaz publication in 2016. The author of the book attempts to address the subjects of melody in 8 separate chapters. The text is smooth and easy to understand and the book cover design is adorned and unobtrusive. The author's musicologists' approach to address the subject, the use of multiple and varied sources, the multiplicity of text-related examples and illustrations, and the abstract and conclusion presentation at the end of each topic were among the most important features of this book. Considering the topics discussed in the chapters and the educational and analytical process presented, a suitable title was not selected for the book. Also, in general, the first, third, and sixth chapters of the book, the main content of which are more coherently raised in other books, cannot be considered a point in this book. In contrast, the perspective raised by the author in Chapters 2 and 8 is a special and useful discussion about the melody that has not been addressed in other Persian-language books.

Lack of using scientific and historical resources for expressing the contents, lack of sufficient explanation in specialized titles, lack of appropriate scientific tools and repetitious contents are some weaknesses of this book. These pitfalls have a significant role on the negative impact on the audience’s knowledge, so it is not a suitable bookto be taught in the university. At the end, some suggestions are made to fix the shortcomings.

Doing studies about the king of speech “Sa’di” is highly respected and the greater they are the greater happiness they make. Atash-e-Parsi is one of these studies on Sa’di`s life and poems. Seeing Sa’di’s name in the first step, makes the reader smile but reading the book more seriously and thinking twice about its content, changes this early feeling little by little, besides revealing new points and facts. A fair reader will understand that the writer of the book, as a Shiite Muslim, has used the SA’DI Collected Works as well as a collection of other historic, religious, mystical, literary, and other references to show a personality of Sa’di based on his own personal thoughts and beliefs. He has also tried to reconstruct the real life of the poet using his romantic Ghazals, which are a product of a unique moment. As a result, reading this book makes hundreds of questions in the readers’ mind and totally confuses them. They mainly have complaints about the periphrasis, incorrect inference, repetition, and the irregular references and wonder why the writer and the publisher did not care about their reader’s mind. considering the fact that a professional publishing institute like Ettela’at is rightly expected to pay much more attention to judging books before publishing them.

Islamic Society in the 3rd and 4th Hijri centuries is important due to the dominance of the Buyid dynasty, Iranian and Shiite rulers in the Sunni Abbasid caliphate system, so this matter has received the consideration of Iranian scholars, Orientalists, and Islamologists. The research and compilation about this period of history requires the accurate recognition of the Islamic society, Iranian society as well as the views of Sunnis and Shiites. For this reason, the Mottahedeh’s book, which takes approaches about the two components of loyalty and leadership, emphasizing the Buyid, deserves translation and critique. The present critique pertains to the content of the book in the original language. Since the translation of the book is important in the proper transmission of the concepts of history, culture, and the correction of the deficiencies in the original text, it evaluates two existing translations of the book by matching them with the original text as well as adapting the two translation texts. Result shows that lack of proper understanding about the Islamic society, the Iranian customs and culture, and the Buyid encountered problems in the text, despite the innovation and creativity in choosing social discussions. Although the translators of the first translation have not provided enough explanations to address the deficiencies of the content of the book, due to their consistency with the scientific expertise of the author, they have been able to provide more a reliable translation.

Using a series of criteria, literary criticism is concerned with the study of literary works from the start explaining the works, their elements and concepts, and clarifying their weaknesses and strengths; ultimately, it helps to improve the quality of the work. These attempts of division of critical theories under literary doctrines can be considered as good examples, and the book "Approach of Realism in Literary Creativity" by Salah Fadl fits the critique in this model. This research attempts to answer a fundamental dilemma: To what extent did this book succeed in completing the explanation of status and criticism of the realist doctrine? The analytical methodological method shows that the book has had great success in explaining the reality theories, whether in form or content, although there are some shortcomings such as the lack of concrete and tangible evidence in the literary texts.

“Critical Bibliography of Shiite Sociology” is a book in which the authors deal with the Shiite religion from a sociological point of view and with regard to the works published during the last seven decades. In each of the eight chapters of the book, the authors have examined one of the practical social issues of religion. In each chapter, one of the most investigative research articles is divided into topics according to characteristics such as the sociological study, the volume of the article, and the applicability of the postscripts. Due to the nature of group writing, the book does not have the necessary coordination in terms of content and subject matter. The authors of the book have tried to address the Shiite religion not from a theological, philosophical or jurisprudential point of view, but from its social aspect and the effects it has on society and cohesion among the people. The eight chapters of the book are as follows: Social History; Clericalism and Religious Authority; Politics and Power; Art, Literature, and Culture; Rites; Mysticism and Sufism; Religious Places and Pilgrimage; Expectation and Mahdism (Mahdawiyya). The method used in this work should be considered as a documentary and hermeneutical method in which the authors of various articles have further described their perceptions of a book and its content.

Thepresent article has evaluated the last three volumes of Tarikh-e Adabiat-e Koodakan-e Iran (The History of Children’s Literature of Iran) in two general areas: 1. The Generalities and the theoretical grounds, including: 1.1. Not explaining the complete literature of the subject, 1.2. not having a clear theoretical base and an explicit approach toward writing the history of literature as a whole and writing the history of children’s literature in particular; 2. The structural-content problems including: 2.1. Not having a coherent structure, 2.2. Not having a clear terminology, 2.3. Not referring to authentic resources and raising unproven claims, 2.4. Covering a very vast historical domain, 2.5. Not having a clear base for the historical periodization, 2.6. Having deficiencies pertaining to the format and the appearance of the book, 2.7. Having writing and editing errors. As a whole, in spite of the theoretical, structural, and content deficiencies, the real importance of this collection is that it has gathered the source materials and documents (specially the scare documents) relating to Persian children’s literature, and one can introduce it as an important reference book in this field.

This article analyzed critical papers related to the political-social issues of Iran. The purpose of the research was to identify the observance level of the fundamentals of criticism and scientific evaluation in critical papers. The method was content analysis, and the statistical population consisted of 123 articles, all critical texts published in various sources over the past three decades and available to researchers. Findings of the research showed that in 56.7% of the critical papers both the strengths and weaknesses of the works have been considered, and in the rest of the papers, only strengths or weaknesses have been considered. Also, in 65.8 percent of the papers, it is focused on the author's critique (positive or negative). In addition, only 14.2% of the papers have been provided with suggestions and solutions to address the shortcomings of the studies. Accordingly, it should be argued that there is still a long way to follow the rules of scientific critique and impartiality and avoidance of biased judgments in the criticism of books related to the political-social changes in Iran and the criticism of other works.

Textbooks have different features and dimensions that reviewing their quality requires studying, criticism, and evaluation from different perspectives. Therefore, this study aimed to provide some criteria for critical assessment of academic textbooks based on principles of educational messages. This is a qualitative library research in which the scientific resources such as books and articles have been studied inductively, and then, the topics were categorized and new criteria for critical assessment of textbooks were presented. The research population of this study included all information resources, books, and indexed articles in the accredited national and international journals published from 2001 to 2017. Moreover, the sampling method of this research was purposive non-random sampling. The results indicated that in the criticism of academic textbooks, other than regarding the formal, structural, content, and writing dimensions, there also exist two more dimensions of a high importance, i.e., the educational and research dimensions. Finally, it can be concluded that in the criticism of academic textbooks, the first purpose of which is the transmission of an educational message, if the educational and research dimensions are ignored, the critique of the book would stay inapplicable and would not satisfy its goals.

One of the main functions of the educational system the implementation of which at schools and educational centers of the country is confronted with various difficulties and misunderstandings is art education of students. Obviously, art education has positive and constructive effects for students, so it should not have a subordinate or marginal role in curriculum, and close attention should be paied to it in the educational system of the country. However, over the past few years, some scientific and research efforts have been made to introduce and recognize the status of art education and the need to pay close attention to it in the educational system of the country. Writing a book titled “Art Curriculum and Instruction in Education” is one of these scientific endeavors. In this article, the book has been reviewed and criticized. The strengths and weaknesses of its content and form were also specified. In sum, in terms of the structure and type of organizing the contents, characteristics of writing, the design of the basic issues of art education, explanation of its role and necessity, especially from its cognitive and non-cognitive results, as well as determining the role and place of the main elements of curriculum in art education, this book has necessary strengths. On the other hand, in terms of the number and extent of its repetition and the similarity of its content with some other works of the authors, the vagueness of parts of the content, the use of translated articles and the lack of attention to the realities of art education in the Iranian educational system, this book has some deficiencies. Definitely, the elimination of these disadvantages will increase the effectiveness of this book.

The present article aims at describing and criticizing the theories of chaos and complexity. Therefore, the "Critical Philosophical Exploration" method was used. The statistical population comprised all books, articles, studies, and research pertaining to the subject that was selected with purposive sampling and the maximum probable sources. The data required were collected through notetaking and analyzed by verbal and logical inference. According to the research findings, chaos theory is the science of studying complex, dynamic, nonlinear, non-equilibrium systems, and complexity theory is the science of study, description, and explanation of the behavior of complex adaptive systems characterized by butterfly effect, unknown attractors, self-similarity, emergence, feedback loops, inequality, self-organization, nesting, networking, holism, nonlinearity, and unpredictability. These theories are considered a scientific theory by Kuhn's conception, a science by the concept of soft sciences, and a paradigm because of questioning the paradigm of modernism and presenting alternative assumptions.

The statistical population comprised all books, articles, studies, and research pertaining to the subject that was selected with purposive sampling and the maximum probable sources. The data required were collected through notetaking which were analyzed by verbal, visual and logical inference. In this paper, MOOCs was first described in three axes: "what", "why", and "how"; then, to interpret MOOCs, the criteria (a) underlying theory, (b) educational justice, (c) adult education, (d) practicality in technical terms, and (e) the educational applications were selected and the MOOCs were analyzed and finally, their advantages and disadvantages were summarized. According to the findings of this article, MOOC's most important benefits included: advanced scientific underlying theory, laying the groundwork for educational justice, proportionality with adult education, operational capability, and various educational advantages and advantages. However, the new underlying theory of MOOCs (relativism) and its many criticizes, MOOCs ability to create and spread educational discrimination, various technical shortcomings, and serious deficiencies in educational application were among the disadvantages. Consequently, dealing with MOOCs needs awareness of these advantages and disadvantages and attempts to resolve them.

In this vein, the author, by drawing on a holistic view of the translations of photographic texts in Iran, outlines the general situation of the Iranian photography community at the time the book was published. Then, he analyzes the contents of the book in detail from the proposed perspective and evaluates the useful items and shortcomings of the book and concludes that despite the existing shortcomings, both in the structure of the book and in translation, the benefits of this book for the current photography community, and in particular the academic community, is far more than its shortcomings, provided it is favorably introduced to academic and art centers.

Undoubtedly, this will cause to improve the quality of the academic textbooks when the criticism is done clearly and constructively. Accordingly, and based on the request of the Iranian Council for Reviewing Books and Text on Human Sciences, the book titled: “The Arabic Textbook for Teaching Translation of Books and Newspaper” written by Adnan Tahmasebi has been criticized. The results of this study state that this book has some advantages and some disadvantages as well which are studied in the form and content. The advantages include preface, list of content, reliable resources, appropriate equivalences for some political and sport expressions, accuracy and fluency of the translation except in some cases which are discussed in detail. The lack of careful subject division, the shortage of suitable practices, none of notation, typing mistakes, hastiness, and lack of edition are the disadvantages of this book which result in many deficiencies in non-compatibility of the Persian Translation with the Arabic text. Finally, some suggestions are presented for the improvement of this work.[1] “Derâsat manhajiyye fi tarjomate al-sohof wa al-majallât”

Rather than a review of similarities between two books according to the usual descriptive and pre-analytical method, the purpose of this comparative study is an introduction to a pathological approach to the translations which have been done of postmodern works in Iran during recent quarter century. The research is not based on an ignorance of modern reception theories, nor on the oblivion of architect like role of reader in the construction of the text; it does not ignore the Walter Benjamin’s idea about the sterility of the reference to reader in the study of place and value of the literary work, nor literary-philosophical theories concerning silence of the writing, which have been accentuated by European thought, from Plato to Maurice Blanchot, and which lead to an anti-Barthes viewpoint, resulting in the death of the reader whose birth depends, said Barthes, on author’s death. Confirming all mentioned approaches, the present study binds itself to the principle that, in given conditions, the best ideas can appear insufficient and even inefficient, and must be reviewed according to daily needs or at least being temporarily suspended. So are the German translational theories, with important thinkers like Goethe, Schleiermacher, Pannwitz and Benjamin: representing the element of the strange language in one’s language, as a common ground for these theories and a principle which announces French theories concerning silence of literature, always requires correct interpretations according to the translation conditions. The present critical text desires achievement of these interpretations. Whereas, in view of its topic, quantity and method, it cannot claim anything but a hint to necessity of some historical and statistical studies about the reception of postmodern works in Iran and presenting hypothesis which should be confirmed by the same studies.A meditationbased on unproved hypothesis is always sentenced to a kind of suspension, oscillation, between present and future; to an eternal uncertainty of its value and utility. But that oscillation and this uncertainty seem to be two meanings of numerous meanings of crisis: a crisis which is inscribed in the nature of criticism and results not only from its ambition for designing truth land borders, but also from a suspicion which targets itself.

For modern researchers, various books and texts open a gate to the knowledge about ancient consequences of civilizations. Criticism, however, not only unfolds the facts and characteristics of the text body as well as examining the capability of the compiler or translator, it also recognizes different domains from intellectual facilities to the type of writing and translation. Finding the strength and weakness points of the book, “Islamic Civilization in Abbasid Era”, from compilation and translation perspective, the compiler and translator seem to have keenly been motivated to present the consequences of civilization in Abbasid era, an effort in which they could successfully fulfill the aim. The study shows that the strength points are positively more than weaknesses. Having Shariah- based approach, the compiler has been capable to propose the consequences of Islamic civilization from various domains. The translator, in turn, has not only strived to fill a gap in Persian works by selecting such book, he also succeeds to deliver an appropriate material to the students with a very little imperfection in translation.

The eloquence such as grammar and syntax were created, at first, for understanding the secrets and mysteries of holy Quran and its rhetorical miracle aspects by considering the Quran and also the ignorance verses; but they were gradually applied in other poetry and prose in Arabic texts and compiled in the forms of coherent rules and finally this process caused the existence of valuable books. One of these valuable books was Javaher Al-balaghah, written by Sayyed Ahmad Hashemi, which was used as the best textbooks in teaching the eloquence. Hence it has been published many times. In spite of what is mentioned, the book, similar to any other human written works, has some defects and inaccuracies. It is investigated and shown in the present article that some of definitions and the expressions of the book are insufficient or inaccurate according to educational courses of old books in the field of Arabic eloquence in the three title of eloquence-simile, metonymy and allegory. The investigation illustrated that the writer, in case of rhetorical subjects, did not define some expressions but the major inaccuracies and deficiencies of the book are related to the writer’s examples in which the readers can realize his negligence even after a little thinking and comparing to the other testifiers of the book.

The book under review is the first volume of the two-volume book of Illustrated Dictionary of Prehistoric Archaeology (English-Persian). The first volume is basically a dictionary, with a brief explanation for a number of entries. The book is analyzed in various aspects including page layout, writing style, and in particular content. This paper discusses numerous examples that the term "pre-history" for the book is merely an irrelevant title. Also, the "illustrated" aspect of the book, also included in the title, has been seriously debated; a significant number of the book's illustrations are completely useless and have merely increased the volume of the book. Apart from these, the important issue is the errors found in the proposed equivalents, which are not by mistake, but insightful. Another flaw in the book is the unknown and unfamiliar equivalents for the Persian-speaking (archaeologist) reader, which is indicated by numerous examples. Generally, among similar books published earlier in the field of archeology, this book is one of the lowest in quality, where the reflection and precision were apparently neglected when developing the book.
