The present research was conducted with the aim of criticizing the book "Introductions to Educational Technology". In this regard, using the educational critical research method, the book written by Khadija Aliabadi, 16th edition of 2019, was criticized. The tool for data collection was the academic textbook review worksheet of the Council for the Review of Texts and Books of Human Sciences. After receiving and completing the sample sheets, the qualitative content analysis method was used to analyze the data. According to the findings, the advantages of the book include appropriate design in terms of volume and shape, calligraphy, good quality of printing and binding, smooth text and simplicity of content, compatibility with Iranian Islamic values, and use of reliable scientific sources. Also, the results showed the shortcomings of the form and content of the book including the oldness of the content and resources, especially in the section related to media, lack of coverage of the latest topics considered by the Ministry of Science, weakness in analyzing and criticizing the content, lack of innovation and creativity in content design and coverage, being free of common scientific content in the field of educational technology.

The present study criticizes the book “Foundations of Curriculum Planning of Elementary Education” by Musapour with a descriptive and analytical approach in two dimensions of form and content. In order to analyze, the method of criticism was used which is based on the "guidelines for preparing critical articles for scientific research publications, critical research papers of humanities texts and programs". After the general introduction of the work, in the first step, the points and shortcomings of the book's shape and form dimensions were pointed out. In this context, the book's cover and design, the analysis of the book's editing and writing rules, and the list of sources and sources were examined respectively. In this context, respectively attention was paid to the description, analysis, and content criticism of the book and the strengths and weaknesses of its content dimensions. In this context, respectively the appropriateness of the title and table of contents with the content of the book, the separation of the chapters of the book, and the organization and coherence of the content and presentation of the content were investigated. It was also analyzed for its novelty and applicability of the content. In the end, it can be stated that the content of the book failed to meet the reader's expectations by emphasizing the three features of the basics of lesson planning, familiarity with the lesson planning of elementary education, and practicality, and it has provided suggestions to improve the work.

The purpose of this study is to review the book “Theoretical Foundations of Educational Technology” authored by Dr. Hashem Fardanesh. For this reason, the book's two dimensions of form and content have been critically explored. Observance of writing and spelling rules, fluency of the text, English-Persian dictionary, and thematic index can be considered as the apparent advantages of the mentioned work. However, providing a preface, stating the main purpose of the work, introduction, and objectives of each chapter, summarizing, questions to evaluate the audience and more appropriate design of the cover can help make it more desirable in appearance. In terms of content, this work has advantages such as logical order and internal coherence, attention to the basics of this field, appropriate phrase choices, and attention to credible sources. Update the definition of educational technology, and provide content related to the concepts of systems, learning, and performance; Uniformity of citation style, clearer presentation of some drawers, and appropriate styling of titles can enrich this book's content. In general, this work is a valuable work for the initial acquaintance with the theoretical foundations of educational technology, and to some extent, it can acquaint the readers with the general and basic frameworks of this field.

The main purpose of this article is to analyze and critique the content of a historical work entitled The History of Educational Administration Viewed Through Its Textbooks. This book represents the reality of educational administration in a relatively long period of time in the mirror of public textbooks in this field and is a unique and valuable book by choosing a different tool for reviewing the historical course of educational administration. Therefore, while analyzing the structural, content and methodological features of this historical monument, its strengths and shortcomings were identified and extracted. The most important points in this book are the classification of historical courses in educational administration compared to similar classifications, the use of polysemous words in writing historical courses, ambiguity in distinguishing general and specialized textbooks of educational administration and internal inconsistency of the content of each course. Also, as a result of coping with the text, the quality of the Persian translation of the book was evaluated in terms of replacing the specialized Persian and correct equivalents, text, and psychological text, as well as the rules of writing and editing.

In Iran, Educational Sciences began as an academic discipline in 1932, but, the essential questions here are, “what was the historical context of the establishment of educational sciences as a discipline in Iran?” and “what process did it go through to reach the stage of quantitative development?” It seems that the formation of educational sciences in Iran has taken place on the basis of historical factors including a) The Founding of Darul-Fonun, b) The Socio-cultural changes during the period between the founding of Dar ul-Fonun and the Persian Constitutional Revolution, c) The Persian Constitutional Revolution, and d) Sending of students to Europe. As a result of these, Educational Sciences in Iran was not rooted in traditional educational institutions and not rely on our legal and philosophical heritage. Educational sciences in Iran, were only able to emerge from the channel of professional provision (ie, teacher education) and to accept itself in our traditional society, perhaps if it had another path of emergence, it would have faced resistance. After emerging in such a context, Educational Sciences have undergone special historical periods to reach the stage of quantitative development that was discussed.

Educational administration is generally meant planning, organizing, guiding, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the educational process, but specifically it means guidance, assistance, and creating the right environment for the educational activity. In other words, educational administration is the process of harmonizing human talents and taking advantage of environmental conditions for educational purposes. The aim of this article is to criticize the book entitled English in Educational Administration. This book could help students to become familiar with the specialized vocabulary of Educational Administration in order to study research done in this area. It is found out that this book is not only an academic text, but it includes the characteristics of teaching and learning, as well. Findings show that along with several positive points in this book, a few shortcomings also point out, and some suggestions are provided to improve the textbook, such as to use up-to-date materials that contain less complex and long sentences and also to provide a section called “Further Reading” at the end of each lesson or at the end of the book to help students who need more information about the discussed points.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are one of the newest phenomena in the area of integrating technology in education. The book “MOOCs Design, Use and Business Models”, which has been translated into Persian, is a university resource for scholars interested in research in this field. This 156-page book is about introducing MOOCs, design models, usage, and business models. In line with critical reviewing, in addition to using the framework introduced in the “Human Sciences Book Review Questionnaire”, evaluation criteria for academic books have also been used. In the first step, using a descriptive-analytical method, the history of MOOCs and research in this field was evaluated to achieve a book’s comparison and evaluation scale. Then, using the evaluation research method, the book was evaluated and criticized. Using content-related criteria, methodology, lingual, structural, appearance, and front and back matter indicators, the book was evaluated at a moderate level. From the instructional perspective, the work was introduced as a supplementary source. The strength of the book is its applicability and relevance, and its weakness was the lack of consistency of content and the mismatch of content with the title and poverty of theoretical foundations. Fluent translation and the correspondence with the main content was one of the most important strengths of the translation, and the need for explanations of the translator in the footnotes and the complete presentation of the abbreviations were the weaknesses of the translation. These findings were discussed, and suggestions were presented.

The book was written by Karen S. Ivers and Ann E. Barron in 2010 and translated by Khadijeh Aliabadi and Esmail Aslani in 2016 and published by Booka Publisher. This paper has been compiled by applying the method of document analysis and reviewing the scope of the book’s merits and shortcomings and reveals that the text has shortcomings in spite of the acceptable consistency with the original text, refinement and fluency, and the availability of specially qualified vocabulary including the lack of designing a teaching-learning strategy and analyzing multiple intelligences during the process of the idea to evaluation, lack of operational and precise strategies for implementing the cooperative learning strategy (collaborative learning), the lack of attention to the details of the steps and activities of each proposed model, lack of attention to the conceptual separation of the flowchart with the content structure and the inability to select some appropriate titles according to the content. The book’s usefulness as a teaching guide for a collaborative multimedia project learning strategy is high as a source of training in electronic content production courses at the undergraduate and even master’s degree courses. Therefore, it is suggested that writers improve their formal, structural, and content defects by resolving them.

The book “Educational Management: Theory, Research, and Practice”, authored by Ali Shirazi, has been an attempt to address the lack of educational management resources. The purpose of this review is to analyze and illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the book. It is a good work, but it also suffers from shortcomings that can add to the richness of the book’s discussions. The author of the book has appropriately used the terms and the equivalence of foreign words, with few exceptions, which are acceptable in accordance with the approved headings. The content is consistent with Islamic and Iranian values. The book does not deal with the history of the field and theories in educational management; it does not examine the major published works of educational management and thus does not provide a comprehensive picture of educational management in Iran and the world. Also, epistemological advances in educational management and knowledge production have not been made in previous centuries. Unfortunately, unlike the good title of the book, it is unlikely that students will be able to read a comprehensive understanding of the unique features of educational management and a systematic understanding of applied and theoretical knowledge in the field. It is hoped that the next edition will promote the development of new topics in the field of educational management in order to assist in the preparation of the curriculum for school leaders.

The book “Graphics for Learning” is the result of the valuable efforts of Ruth Colvin Clark and Chopeta Lyones in explaining graphics to facilitate learning. The main premise of the book is that the use of graphics (visual elements) alongside words facilitates learning compared to words alone. The authors’ efforts in presenting the material are accompanied by features such as the use of research evidence and action-based cognitive theory in real-life learning situations, clear and integrated expression, and up-to-datedness, to distinguish this book from other books in graphic design. Another special feature of the book is the use of graphic guides or instructions on how to use visual elements to enhance the processes of learning psychology and to learn different types of course content. The existence of a general map of the book and an explanation of the position of each section and each chapter in relation to the collection of contents have led to the integration and formation of a mental map. However, in selecting the general topics and concepts, the authors’ reasons have not been properly identified, and there are also criticisms about ignoring learning styles, learning environment, and not explaining teaching and learning. This book is one of the resources in the field of educational technology, and it is worthwhile to examine the dimensions of its effectiveness in teaching and learning.

The purpose of this article is to criticize and analyze the content and structure of “the Handbook for College Teaching”. The research method was a critical exploration. The book has been criticized and analyzed in terms of its form (advantages and shortcomings) as well as its content (intra-structure). The main positive points of the book are simple and fluent prose, expressing the objectives of the book, using simple and technical terms, presenting conceptual prerequisites, expressing the disadvantages and benefits of teaching methods. However, the negative points are its emphasis on traditional methods and its ignorance of the new teaching methods. The authors did not make a distinction between the concepts of teaching methods, techniques, and skills. There is no appropriate cohesion among the titles within the chapters. Instructional objectives are not mentioned at the beginning of each chapter. Only a few pictures and images were used to help the learners understand the text. Critical thinking methods and techniques, as an integral component of higher education, were, to a great extent, neglected. The theoretical background and the literature of the related studies do not meet academic book expectations. At the end of the article, suggestions are made to improve the content of the book.

The purpose of this study is to criticize the book “Can Education Change Society?” written by Michael Apple in 2013. It was translated by Nazanin Mirzabaki (1395). This study reviews a critical tradition in the field of curriculum and educational studies. The research method and type of study are applied. In the first and second editions of the book, one of the strengths of the book was the attempt to link political movements around the world to create changes, although the writer, translator, and editor did a great job. Some of the textual and translation mistakes have led to criticism of the author and translator’s scientific approach. Perhaps the most important criticism of the author is the lack of use of scientific instruments, such as practice, charts, and pictures.

Although critique is the basis of personal and social growth and development, this issue has not become a dominant culture and logical process of the scientific community. This situation has many reasons. One of these reasons is the underlying assumptions or paradigms governing the scientific community. Therefore, the purpose of this article was to analyze the culture of critique and explain this culture based on three dominant scientific paradigms: Modernism, Postmodernism, and Chaos-Complexity. Therefore, the deductive reasoning method was used. The statistical population included all the books, articles, studies related to the subject, and the most possible sources were selected by purposive sampling method as samples. The information was collected by a checklist and was analyzed by a verbal and qualitative content analysis method. The findings show that Modernism only allows critique as a theoretical determination, which is a negative and superficial understanding, and incompatible with the nature of criticism. Thus, the culture of critique in this paradigm has not been formed and institutionalized. Postmodernism also does not provide an opportunity for critique. But Chaos-Complexity is a very suitable context for the formation, promotion, and institutionalization of the culture of critique. Because its features and assumptions provide a proper explanation for the concept, characteristics, and all conventions of criticism. Therefore, the formation, promotion, and institutionalization of the culture of critique requires a paradigm shift from Modernism and Postmodernism to Chaos-Complexity.

Textbooks have different features and dimensions that reviewing their quality requires studying, criticism, and evaluation from different perspectives. Therefore, this study aimed to provide some criteria for critical assessment of academic textbooks based on principles of educational messages. This is a qualitative library research in which the scientific resources such as books and articles have been studied inductively, and then, the topics were categorized and new criteria for critical assessment of textbooks were presented. The research population of this study included all information resources, books, and indexed articles in the accredited national and international journals published from 2001 to 2017. Moreover, the sampling method of this research was purposive non-random sampling. The results indicated that in the criticism of academic textbooks, other than regarding the formal, structural, content, and writing dimensions, there also exist two more dimensions of a high importance, i.e., the educational and research dimensions. Finally, it can be concluded that in the criticism of academic textbooks, the first purpose of which is the transmission of an educational message, if the educational and research dimensions are ignored, the critique of the book would stay inapplicable and would not satisfy its goals.

Critical assessment, as an active and organized process, has become an essential activity for a better understanding of scientific texts and clarifications of goals, highlights, and outcomes, as well as the dynamics of studies over the last few decades. This activity, however, is often accompanied by objection, and sometimes abrupt bias, which greatly reduces its effects. Critical assessment is one of the components or functions of Critical Thinking. Critical Thinking means something more than just looking for the problems; rather, it has tried to consider a subject from different aspects. Unfortunately, one of the common problems of critical assessment is the excessive focus on rational critique processes, and the separation of the logic from emotions. In this paper, the possibility of presenting a cognitive-emotional approach was taken into account to criticize and to answer the question of how much emotional components can be considered in this cognitive and maybe unpleasant activity. The paper has tried to find out What the requirements of paying attention to the value and emotional components during this process are, and how we relate Critical Thinking to Caring Thinking. In response to these questions, the concept of Critical Care is presented by describing Critical Thinking and Caring Thinking as well as its components.

One of the main functions of the educational system the implementation of which at schools and educational centers of the country is confronted with various difficulties and misunderstandings is art education of students. Obviously, art education has positive and constructive effects for students, so it should not have a subordinate or marginal role in curriculum, and close attention should be paied to it in the educational system of the country. However, over the past few years, some scientific and research efforts have been made to introduce and recognize the status of art education and the need to pay close attention to it in the educational system of the country. Writing a book titled “Art Curriculum and Instruction in Education” is one of these scientific endeavors. In this article, the book has been reviewed and criticized. The strengths and weaknesses of its content and form were also specified. In sum, in terms of the structure and type of organizing the contents, characteristics of writing, the design of the basic issues of art education, explanation of its role and necessity, especially from its cognitive and non-cognitive results, as well as determining the role and place of the main elements of curriculum in art education, this book has necessary strengths. On the other hand, in terms of the number and extent of its repetition and the similarity of its content with some other works of the authors, the vagueness of parts of the content, the use of translated articles and the lack of attention to the realities of art education in the Iranian educational system, this book has some deficiencies. Definitely, the elimination of these disadvantages will increase the effectiveness of this book.

For appraisal of fundamentals of finance and budget (in education sector), the framework of inspection of liberal science texts and books council was used. The results of assessment showed that history of budget in the country, principles, and steps of budget classification and methods of income and expenditure estimate have been explained in details. In some instances, people’s right to oversee government operations as a logic behind budget approval by parliament has been emphasized. The book is readable; the quality of print is relatively suitable, and the text is clear and easy to read for the most parts. Not all chapters include introduction, summary, test, picture, practice (sample) and final conclusion, and only for one chapter, practice (sample) has been presented. Phraseology general principle has not been followed in a section of the book. There is no scientific and literary editing as well. The most important shortcoming of this book is related to its lack of coverage of vast changes (advances) in public accounting systems and public financial statistics which have been used since 2003 which per se makes the majority of book outdated and old. Moreover, many regulations, institutions and methods have changed in government budgeting systems and education sector which are not reflected in this book. The other considerable shortcoming is related to lack of attention to financing education which connects theoretical issues of education economy to practical aspects like fundamentals of finance and budget in education sector. Another problem with the book is overlooking theprocesses and methods of distribution and allocation of credits among regions as well as programs and activities in education sector. Not considering political economy of budgeting as an area that operations take place is another shortcoming. Lack of attention to macroeconomic issues like government’s role in economy, budget deficit, and related views to economic concepts can also be seen. Updating book and discussing education finance issues with distribution of public credits in education sector are also suggested.

The present article aims at describing and criticizing the theories of chaos and complexity. Therefore, the "Critical Philosophical Exploration" method was used. The statistical population comprised all books, articles, studies, and research pertaining to the subject that was selected with purposive sampling and the maximum probable sources. The data required were collected through notetaking and analyzed by verbal and logical inference. According to the research findings, chaos theory is the science of studying complex, dynamic, nonlinear, non-equilibrium systems, and complexity theory is the science of study, description, and explanation of the behavior of complex adaptive systems characterized by butterfly effect, unknown attractors, self-similarity, emergence, feedback loops, inequality, self-organization, nesting, networking, holism, nonlinearity, and unpredictability. These theories are considered a scientific theory by Kuhn's conception, a science by the concept of soft sciences, and a paradigm because of questioning the paradigm of modernism and presenting alternative assumptions.
