چکیده

نویسنده کتاب بازاندیشی عدالت اجتماعی نظریه خود را «ارزش اخلاقی فراگیر و خودبسندۀ عدالت» نامگذاری کرده که دارای سه رکن مفهومی، ارزشی و موضوعی است. بخش عمده‌ای از کتاب صرفاً به گزارش نظریات مختلف عدالت پرداخته است بدون آنکه برای مخاطبانی که به‌دنبال نظریه‌ای از عدالت اجتماعی مستند به اسلام هستند، آوردۀ چندانی داشته باشد. نویسنده اجرای شریعت را به‌تنهایی برای تحقق عدالت اجتماعی کافی نمی‌داند و مجموعه‌ای از علوم انسانی اسلامی را در کنار فقه و شریعت برای تبیین و اجرای عدالت ضروری می‌داند. در نگاه وی عدالت ارزشی در کنار سایر ارزش‌ها است درحالی‌که این تلقی از عدالت نمی‌تواند مبنای تنظیمات اجتماعی قرار بگیرد چرا که نیازمند معیاری برای سنجش آن در مقابل سایر ارزش‌ها هستیم. مسائلی از عدالت اجتماعی که نویسنده درصدد پاسخ به آن‌هاست بیش از آنکه مسائلی «اجتماعی» باشد، مسائلی «نظری» و «ذهنی» است که عمدتاً در مجامع علمی با آن سروکار دارند. درواقع این نظریه فارغ از جامعه و تاریخ خاص مطرح شده و لذا اتصاف آن به «اجتماعی» بودن دچار تردید جدی شده است. بااین‌حال این کتاب به‌لحاظ آموزشی می‌تواند قابل استفاده باشد و خواننده را ضمن فراگیری اصطلاحات و مکاتب عدالت، با چالش‌های نظری و مرزبندی‌های ماهوی میان نظریات آشنا سازد.

Rethinking Social Justice emphasizes the intrinsicality of moral value of justice and its precedence over other social values. The primary focus of the book is on the conceptualization, reasons, and necessity of social justice, without addressing the howness of the subject. This omission can be seen as a major flaw, for many justice-oriented challenges and conflicts arise in its howness. A major part of the book is devouted to reporting different theories of justice without having much relevance to an Islamic theory of social justice. The book requires some Islamic humanities besides the Sharia law and Fiqh for the explanation and implementation of justice. However, he does not go further to explain the relationship between the two. Reducing justice to a certain value alongside other values, it requires broader criteria to resolve conflicts between it and other values. This contradicts with the book’s claim of justice as being comprehensive and absolute. Furthermore, the issues of social justice addressed by the book are not so much "social" in their nature but just "theoretical" and "mental" aspects. However, this book can be used for teaching purposes and to familiarize students and teachers with certain theoretical challenges.
