چکیده

گرچه تا آنجایی که افلاطون صورت نوشتاری گفتگو را برای آثار خود برگزیده است، به طور کلی آثارش در جایگاه منحصربفردی در تاریخ فلسفه قرار می‌گیرد، با این حال محاورۀ ضیافت در میان آثار او محاوره‌ای خاص است. در ضیافت ما با هفت خطابه درباب موضوع بحث مواجهیم که در آن هر سخنران باری از موضوع بحث سخن می‌گوید و موضوع را به سخنران بعدی تحویل می‌دهد. بدین ترتیب هر گفته‌ای درباب موضوع بحث، تا آنجا که در میانۀ گفتۀ قبل و بعد از خود مطرح می‌شود، گفته‌ای ناتمام است و با ناتمامیت خود موضوع را همواره در میانۀ گفتگو مطرح و پژوهیدنی نگه می‌دارد. از این رو ادعای ما در مقالۀ پیش رو این است که اولا ضیافت نه اثری در میان آثار افلاطون، بلکه طرح افلاطون از گفتگو است و ثانیا به همین میزان که ضیافت را همچون طرح افلاطون از گفتگو درمی‌یابیم، گفتگو نه صرفا صورت نوشتاری افلاطون، بلکه طرح او از اندیشیدن است.

While Plato chooses dialogue as the Form of his philosophical works, and due to this, his works are distinct in the history of philosophy, "The symposium" is a different one in Plato’s works. This dialogue presents seven interrelated speeches on the nature of love, while each speaker contributing to the discussion and passing the topic to the next. Consequently, in so far as every utterance in Symposium constituted by the preceding and subsequent contributions, each utterance emerges as inherently incomplete, which invites a continuous investigation of the subject throughout the dialogue. Our primary claim in this article is twofold: first, that "The Symposium" should not be considered merely as one of Plato’s dialogues, but as a pattern of dialogue itself; and second, that this recognition prompts us to reconsider dialogue not only as Plato’s chosen literary form but also as a pattern of his philosophical thinking.
