Linguistics knowledge, especially Semantics, has emerged as an independent science. Ahmed Mukhtar Omar is one of those scientists that introduced Semantic theories by writing the book of “Semantics”. This work has been translated into Persian by Seyyed Hossein Seyyedi. The author of this paper has tried to study this book through analysis and criticism, and to consider its strong and weak points. At first, the source text has been studied briefly and then the translation is criticized. It is concluded that this book can only be used as a subsidiary textbook for Philology, Etymology, Applied Linguistics, and Translation courses, but it cannot be regarded as a complete textbook.

The book “Al-nahw Al-asri”(Contemporary Syntax) is a new book on the rules of Syntax and Morphology which according to its author, the method of discussion in this book is new and intelligible, and it is easy to apply. In this book, the Syntax and Morphology of the Arabic Language have been studies entirely, the advantages and disadvantages of the methodology of compilations in the Arabic Syntax have collected, and all the subjects in the Arabic Syntax and Morphology and all their styles have been studied. The book “Contemporary Syntax” is almost comprehensive; however, it lacks References, Verses and Narrations, etc. It has a relatively appropriate teaching method, but since learning the syntactic and morphological rules needs repetition and practice, the lack of practices in this book is one of its disadvantages. Because the presented issues in this book are simple, it is a suitable book for intermediate levels. With respect to some scientific errors in the book, it cannot be regarded as a source for Syntax and Morphology, or as a specialized source. This article tries to evaluate the scientific level of the book, its teaching methods, the extent of author’s accomplishment in describing, explaining, and teaching the rules of Arabic Language through its analysis.

Abstract The book Assas al-Loghat al-Arabyya (Foundations of Arabic Language or Arabic Linguistics) is among outstanding works of Muhammad Fahmi Hejazi written about Arabic linguistics. The translation of this book into Persian seems necessary for Arabic Language and Literature. Therefore, the translation of Seyyed Hassan Seyyedi is admirable, but in spite of his great efforts in this path, it seems that his translation has some errors. The present study investigated this translation at two lexical and sentence levels. At last it obtained the results that the translator has committed some errors in selecting equivalences for some of words and expressions. In addition, his radical commitment to the structure of Arabic syntax and also his insufficient knowledge of some theories and ideas of linguistics in translation such as collocation caused that his translation be vague and unclear in some cases.

Translation Criticism[WU1] : “The Arabic Textbook for Teaching Translation of Books and Newspaper”[1]The study and criticism of the scientific works lead to the recognition of their characteristics and disadvantages; therefore, it results in avoiding shortcomings and emphasizing on the strong points. Undoubtedly, this will cause to improve the quality of the academic textbooks when the criticism is done clearly and constructively. Accordingly, and based on the request of the Iranian Council for Reviewing Books and Text on Human Sciences, the book titled: “The Arabic Textbook for Teaching Translation of Books and Newspaper” written by Adnan Tahmasebi has been criticized. The results of this study state that this book has some advantages and some disadvantages as well which are studied in the form and content. The advantages include preface, list of content, reliable resources, appropriate equivalences for some political and sport expressions, accuracy and fluency of the translation except in some cases which are discussed in detail. The lack of careful subject division, the shortage of suitable practices, none of notation, typing mistakes, hastiness, and lack of edition are the disadvantages of this book which result in many deficiencies in non-compatibility of the Persian Translation with the Arabic text. Finally, some suggestions are presented for the improvement of this work.[1] “Derâsat manhajiyye fi tarjomate al-sohof wa al-majallât”

Curriculum planning in Teaching Arabic Language in Iran is very rare in comparison to it in Arabic countries. The book titled: “The Reference in Teaching Arabic to the Speakers of Other Languages” is one of the most important books in this field in the Arab World. In this article, it is tried to study and criticize this book. So, the strong and weak points of this work will be explained through content analysis, and the discussed issues of the book will be compared with the English books in curriculum planning. The results of the research indicate that the approach of the authors of the book is cultural. In fact, they could provide the Islamic-Arabic framework for teaching Arabic Language to the speakers of other languages through localizing the Western theories and methods of curriculum planning. One of disadvantages of this book, according to its content analysis, is the lack of discussing and studying the main component of “Need Assessment” in the curriculum planning, and the lack of some essential issues such as the methods of teacher training, evaluation, and the improvement of their performance.

Although more than forty years have passed since the publication of the first Edition of this book, it is highly important among the Arabic books on Linguistics. Regarding the common titles among most of the books in this field, what fortifies the status of this work is its comprehensiveness and the scientific analysis, and avoiding pure narration. Despite the fact that some other books had published after this book, they could not reach the position of this book written by Ramadan Abd Al-Tawwab. Hamidreza Sheikhi translated the book in 1988. By studying and criticizing his translation through total induction, expressional and structural comparison with the original work, the following results obtained: the Persian translation of the book, in spite of a lot of typing errors and some mistakes in understanding and transforming concepts, is generally an acceptable and reliable translation. Perhaps, the main point in this work is not translating the poetic evidence, but only in one chapter, and they left in their original forms. Maybe, the translator thought that mentioning these verses were just phonetic, morphological, or syntactic examples, and the author did not intend their conceptual and meaningful aspects. Actually, it is confirmed that the main audience of this work are Arabs or Arabic linguists, and the audience of the translation are non-Arab speakers.

Teaching Arabic for specific purposes is one of its main challenges in Teaching Arabic Language in Iran. “Teaching Arabic Language” coauthored by Faramarz Mirzaei and Ali Nazari is a textbook developed for teaching Arabic to the students of Law. The close interconnection of some areas of the field of Law with Arabic Language and the lack of diverse textbooks in this area have doubled the need for writing such works. In this article, the form and content of the book have been analyzed. In the form analysis, the book cover, typography, page layout, bookbinding, punctuations, and typing errors were examined. The content analysis bases on the conformation of contents with title, the logical order of the chapters and their discussions, the critique of the scientific content, the adequacy and fluency of the script, and the referencing. The prominent advantages of the book include the compilation of plentiful legal examples and practices, and its new arrangement to some extent. Yet, it is required that the authors revise the existing form and content shortcomings in the next editions of the book.
